I have this budgeted as well but didn't list above:
5% paycheck for 401k
entertainment $450
savings $450
and now, misc. $100

Thanks! I move in mid-Dec and I'll take a look around Dickens St. It'd be great to have a nice 1 bdrm for less than $1300/mo.

Melhoney is right, you can get a nice 1 bedroom for 900- 1000 bucks in S.O. If you haven't already found a place, I recommend checking out Dickens Street. It runs parallel to and south of Ventura blvd., so you can walk to stores, restaurants, banks, etc. Also, it has easy access to the 101/405 intersection, or you can take several side roads over the hill. The street is full of apartment complexes, cheap and expensive, so it shouldn't be too hard to find something. Good luck!

Rentals do not pay for water, the building includes that and trash pickup. The figures look pretty good, but add in Entertainment and lots of misc.

Yes and no. You forgot misc. the sad fact of like is random crap that seems like it will only happen once happens nearly everymonth and seems to cost an avg. of 100 or more.

Plus you will want dates, clothes, cds or dvds...
