They are getting more power now out of these new generation cells and cheaper as well ,you could save a lot on electricity bills and even sell the surplus back to your utility provider.

We have applied for them because we are trying to be more environmental, but savings (and in some cases, making) money is few and far between. With our bills and such (and the cost of the equipment), it will take us 8 years to pay off the system... and then we will still also pay monthly to the utility company! We understand that the panels do not last forever and our roof also needs to be replaced. The government gives back toward your taxes, for certain sized units, but it is not significant enough to pay for the entire system! So, if you want to be environmental, it's a good investment. If you want to make money... invest in the market!

Yes, we got our solar panels installed in 1979 for my hot water tank. It was expensive back then, but I knew that as the cost of oil and gas goes up so does the electric bills. We are now getting free hot water from the sun because the savings in electricity covered the cost of the solar hot water system many years ago.

The newer solar panels now make electricity during the day and cause your meter to run backwards. The technology is making it cheaper. lighter and more efficient.

no,they sound very well but they are cheaper to use right now but the solar panels still have a problem! what happens when it isn't sunny and you run out of saved up sunnergy?
you have now power and you have to wait till it is sunny!
i suggest living in a place that is mostly sunny so that you cant run out on sun as often!!!

sunnergy means: sun energy!!
i made it up!! =)
happy green living!

It's still fairly expensive to add to existing housing. When we build on our property in the desert we are going to have solar and wind power in the mix, most definitely.

We're still paying off loans on other home improvements, but if we catch up before we build, we would be very interested in going solar with our current home.

No, but I have one on my camper roof along with a battery and regulator, runs a reading light, fan all night if I need it, charges my cell phone, lap top computer & vacume, plan on getting a larger solar pannel - works great.

No, I rent, and I'd only go for the solar heating. PVs aren't that environmentally friendly.
