Anything cooked in the tandoor is what I like.
The curries and the stew-like dishes are good, but grilled foods are great in my book!

Being an asian girl living, good indian food in my opinion is the food made by my mum, nan, aunties and other family.
The stuff you get in restaurants was made for the public...what you get in an Indian household is completely different and so much better.
I was born in London and still go to indian restaurants...but I love eating at home, too. My family come from India/Kenya.
If you don't like it spicy, go for the butter chicken or chicken korma...not that there's any difference as they both taste the same but they're both sweet and creamy.
They were only created when the British took over India and demanded something was made that wasn't too spicy for them...the pu$$ies.
If you like it spicy, try the Lamb madras. I would say chicken but I think that the type of meat used relates to the spiciness of the sauce.
Saag potatoes are refreshing (wilted spinach cooked with spices and boiled potatoes). I love it.
Honestly, don't bother with indian restaurants. Grab some recipes and try making it at home. You will not be disappointed.

Besides curry, there are lots of dry preparations which i'm sure u will like - go for the food listed under Mughlai in any indian restaurant - it will be good without doubt. Non veg preparations from the indian state of Andhra is also really good - spicy stuff! Also, u must try the cottage cheese preparations too.

If you're not into the really spicy stuff like Beef Madras or Vindaloo, try some of there mild dishes that have loads of flavour. Everybody loves butter chicken, but I sometimes find that a bit boring. Rogan Josh is nice and so is Tandoori chicken. East it with some garlic naan, raita and yellow rice with peas. Onion Bhajis are a delightful entree, that are made with chickpea batter and deep fried.
All Indian food is good when enjoyed with friends

I prefer the following:
Lamb or chicken curry,
Lamb vindaloo
Potato Samosas with the above 2 dishes
Aloo choley (garbanzos with potatoes)
Aloo gobhi (cauliflower with potatoes)
Naan, bhatura or poori (all bread), and/or paneer pakora (fried fresh cheese) with the above 2 dishes.
Chicken makhani with naan bread on the side.
It is a creamy chicken dish with fenugreek leaves (methi)...it has a mapley, spicy, mellow flavor. My husband hates indian food, but loves makhani.
You could also try sikh kebabs....ground lamb on a stick.
The above are the only things I frequently buy. The other dishes do not appeal to my tastebuds.

I personally like curry with yogurt in it which is basically known as korma. My favorite vegetarian curry is Malai Kofta. My favorite non veg. Butter Chicken. Butter Chicken is unique because the onions are cooked in butter as opposed to ghee or oil which is normally used to make curry. Yogurt and tomato paste, and heavy cream also go into in making it really nice and creamy.
Kebabs are also good. My absolute favorite is Bihari kebabs which use a mixture of spices and mashed papaya (which isn't noticeable.) to give it its unique flavor.
As far as condiments there is a yogurt mix which can go on almost anything called raita.
For dessert I like Khala Jamun which is soft balls of cake in a sweet rose water syrup. If you like ice cream there is also Kulfi served usually in pistachio or mango.
