The list of foods you CAN eat is much longer than the list of foods you CAN'T eat! If you enjoy vegetables and eat a variety of them, combined with good healthy whole grains like brown rice, barley and whole wheat products, you can still easily ingest enough protein to meet the body's requirements, even if you choose not to eat eggs and/or dairy. Remember nuts/seeds and legumes are awesome, significantly healthier sources of protein, too. Have a look at www.vegetariantimes.com, it's the website for the magazine of the same name. There's loads of links there to TONS of great info that helped me when I was starting out. Good luck to you!

If you're vegetarian, pretty much anything except meat. There are a couple of exceptions. You will want to avoid gelatin (the rendered hooves, bones, tendons, and hides of animals) and cheese made with rennet (rennet is made from the fourth stomach of calves). There are rennetless cheeses out there. Amy's kitchen is an all-vegetarian company (no flesh foods or eggs). Lightlife, Tofurkey, and Yves also make convenience products for veg*ans. Read labels to make sure your "vegetable" soup doesn't have animal stock (for some reasons, companies who make onion soup feel compelled to use beef or chickens tock). And check sauces to make sure there are no fish extracts. Some yogurts have gelatin in them, so watch for that (I like the Whole Soy & Company yogurt--it's the only one labeled vegan).

Check out www.vegweb.com for more resources on being vegetarian. And good luck!

And for veg-friendly options when dining out, check out www.happycow.net or www.vegdining.com.

let's see here is a basic list but I suggest looking up some recipes and experimenting with what you can buy in your local food store.

Sloppy Joe's either made with beans or ground beef substitute

Pasta with sauce that has veggie grounds (I use red sauce or cream of mushroom soup)

Broiled or grilled portabella mushroom on a roll taste good with some mayo with some capers mixed in

Grilled cheese and tomato (I make mine with soy cheese)

Nachos

Pittas or a wrap with refried beans, cheese, and salsa

Baked potato with vegan sour cream and baco's

veggie dogs
veggie burgers
veggie chik patties
veggie chik nuggets

the list goes on and on experiment and find your favorites have fun.

Check out some Indian vegetarian websites for recipes.

If you are cooking at home, use fresh vegetables to cook, use spices and tomato sauce or yogurt to add flavor to your dishes.

If you are eating out, most italian restaurants will offer pastas without meat. Mexican restaurants/foods also offer good veg. options.

To compensate for proteins, try to have lentils (daals) and beans in your diet. Also cheese, spinach are good sources.

make a taco salad without the meat. It is good with lettuce, cheese, avacado, corn, kidney beans, yellow bell pepper, chives and for the dressing 1 part salsa with 1 part sour cream

If you are going to refuse to eat the readily available animal products that are supposed to be part of your diet, then don't go on complaining about having nothing to eat. Fool.
