I have kids and we are living in Shanghai, we used to live in Beijing, I would sugges tot check out the links that I have provided below, I would also suggest that you start reading them books about China, have them start learning a some Chinese (Barnes and Nobles has some great tools for learning)

Large cities all have very reputable international schools...
However, you better check your working conditions to make sure you can afford the costs or that your employer (asuming you are going there to work) will be paying for your children's international school. I am warning you, it's not cheap! I looked into it 3 or 4 months ago after I received an offer to teach in a good university in Dalian. Average cost was in the area of $10,000 US (or CDN hehe) per year per kid. I also checked at Xiamen where I had also a job offer, and it was more or less in the same ball park figure. I don't know about Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, but I suspect that it would be at least the same thing, if not more expensive. Needless to say, I didn't go because of the high costs....
It might be cheaper to hire a private teacher or tutor...I am looking into it myself in preparation for my eventual move...

If there is not an affordably priced international school in your area, look into Chinese schools that offer English language programs since their students will, hopefully, be able to speak some English with your children. Also, see about getting them a Chinese tutor now. It will make it much easier for them to adjust if they can speak a little bit with their classmates and teachers when they come to China. I would also recommend getting some homeschooling books to keep them up to speed with what their classmates back home are doing so they won't be behind when you return to your country. Check out expat websites for the city you plan to live in. They will be the "experts" for your area and can help you when you arrive. Good luck!
