Coughing usually accompanies the common colds or the flu. . It could also be from bronchitis.or Pneumonia. esp if accompanied with secretions. Observe the color of your secretions. Do these coughing come with fever; sore throat; and generalized body malaise? Coughing shouldn't be suppressed as it helps to clear the mucus or phlegm from the airways and the lungs.
Coughing if acompanied with secretions that are thick and greenish or yellowish indicate some type of upper resp infections including acute sinusitis. But if the secretions are clear; most likely, this non-productive coughing is some form of seasonal allergies.
And as the duration of this coughing is almost 3 wks, you might consider this as a form of allergy. Try an over the counter allergy med. Sleep with an extra pillow
Do you know that I recently discovered that blood pressure meds can cause coughing esp at night; as a side effect?
Acute coughs usually begin suddenly. They are often due to a cold, flu, or sinus infection. They usually go away after 2 to 3 weeks.
Chronic coughs last longer than 2 to 3 weeks.
Besides recent upper airway infections such as the common cold and flu, other common causes of coughs include:
Allergies and asthma
Lung infections such as pneumonia or acute bronchitis
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (emphysema or chronic bronchitis)
Sinusitis leading to postnasal drip
Lung disease such as bronchiectasis, interstitial lung disease, or tumors
Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)
Cigarette smoking
Exposure to secondhand smoke
Exposure to air pollutants
ACE inhibitors (medications used to control blood pressure

It is always a good idea to get a medical opinion (when possible) when dealing with the respiratory system. Normally a cough should subside after a week (if it is a simple cold cough). Persistent cough (in non smoker) can be an indication of bronchitis or walking pneumonia. Both should be treated - if ignored they can develop into more serious conditions.

Yes it sounds like you need to go to the doctor. You didn't say weather you had been sick (cold or flu) or not. It could also be an allergy, instead of runny nose or eyes you get a cough. Go and have it checked out.

You may need to see a doctor to find out if it is an infection. If its only a virus rest, lots of fluids especially orange, lime and ginger could help.
