I've been feeling tired lately so my mom gave me an extra blood sugar machine, just checked it about 30 min ago and it was 193, she said it shouldn't be that high, even though i ate a lot of choclate today, she says my pancreas should even it out between 80-100, just rechecked it now is 166, is this possibly diabetes?

I'm confused now, My mom has had Type 1 since she was 8, so she knows a bit, but I called my doc's nurse this morning and she is saying it's because of what I ate. My mom says it SHOULD NOT matter what I ate it should always be 80-100 or atmost 120? Who's right?

I had gestational diabetes (pregnancy related) and I was told that an hour after eating my sugars should be between 80-120. Fasting sugars (when you wake up) should be below 60-80 (if I remember correctly) I would say that is high but not horribly high. You should see your doctor, especially because (from what you've stated your mother has diabetes?, I'm guessing) and there are genetic factors that contribute to the disease. She's right about your pancreas, when working properly it should release enough insulin to keep your sugars at bay no matter how much chocolate or carbs you've had. You will be much better off if they can get it under control with diet and exercise, otherwise the alternative is a shot 4X or more a day. Believe me it's not fun :) (My goofy endocrinologist put me on insulin with my 2nd child which come to find out was a big mistake because my sugars weren't that high and with my 3rd baby diet and exercise alone were fine and he put me at undo risk for problems in the future) Good luck to you!

It could be. See your doctor as soon as possible. A fasting blood sugar ( 8-12 hours without taking food or drink before blood is checked by a laboratory) is more reliable. This is for short-tem blood sugar control. HbA1c (Hemoglobin A1c) for long term blood sugar control is also checked from blood sample.

You could be borderline diabetic. The best way to find out is to see a doctor. Also, watch for symptoms such as excessive thirst and urination, unexplained weight loss or gain, sores that heal slowly, in addition to your fatigue, especially if diabetes runs in your family. If you are diabetic, your doctor will put you on medication to control your blood sugar. It's very crucial to nip diabetes in the bud because it can result in severe complications, such as impaired vision, heart and kidney failure, nerve damage, and in extreme cases, amputations. Please get a checkup ASAP!

First see a doctor.
meanwhile, check your sugar when you get up before you eat, it should be 70-110. If it is only a little elevated you may be able to address it with carb control.
It does matter when you check in relation to food consumption.
Truly you should see a doctor soon.

Could be. Check 2 hours after eating. If over 130, eat less sugar, especially candy & soda. Drink diet soda, it has no sugar.
