just want to make it clear that this question is not mean spirited in any way. i really am just curious. and by living things i'm not talking about plants. i should have rephrased that. aren't bugs considered animals too?

if it is possible to remove the pest without killing it then that would be preferable; for example using humane animal traps for mice or other animals like that and releasing them somewhere like a park where they wont end up back in a house. most bugs i try to remove and take outside, like moths or other large insects. but if it comes down to an infestation of something like termites or something that puts the stability of my home or my health at risk then it becomes a safety issue and has to be dealt with. so, yes i would kill a pest that couldnt be removed any other way if it came down to that. this is my house, and they arent paying rent ;)

I would say get rid of them before they get you. Your survival is more important than your values about not killing or hurting other living beings. I am a vegan myself and this is my opinion. Think about it we kill a lot of germs when we wash our hands- we can't stop washing hands and taking bath just to spare germs. I don't believe in taking other living beings' lives for the sake of our food but when it is a question of my survival I might even do it - go forbid that day may never come. I would take all precautions but If the problem is grave like pest control you had mentioned I would prefer taking them out.

What I have found after years of being vego is that you tend not to have pests. I have lived in 6 different places without real problems. I have had ants once in awhile and I find out what is attracting them, remove it, and they go away. Flies, hardly get them, and if I do I try to catch them and let them go. Same for spiders Generally, I think meat attracts most pests, so no problem for me.

I once knew a vegan that didn't like the pest either and he just let his roommate kill them. He was kind of weird too, he was vegan, but he said he didn't really like Fruit, so I wondered what he ate.

There are non-chemical ways of deterring insects, if that is the kind of pest you mean. Neem oil kills insects but is healthy for mammals. There are lots of things. I don't like killing insects, but I have found it necessary to use those sticky spider traps,
for instance. Those hobo and/or recluse spiders a real problem.

It depends from person to person.

Some i know will catch them and release them.

Others will specifically only kill pests that spread disease, like mosquitoes for example.

Im a vegetarian, if theres bugs in my house i kill them, because its my house.

Outside of the house i leave them be if they leave me be : )
