Ha ha ha. You are SO right!! I experienced some top notch food in England. You have exquisite lamb dishes, fish dishes, meat pies, and fish and chips (well, you do!!) And I love the pastries and even the plum puddings aka Christmas puddings. While the US DOES have some pretty good food and restaurants, the daily fare is less than gourmet -- more like two cuts above pig slop. There is an international bandwagon saying British food is bad. Taint so. Just taint so.

You are misinformed on 2 issues. First of all American food is not just about hamburgers and hot dogs. There is much more to it than that especially considering all of the regional/ethnic variations in American food. Southern food, south western food, California cuisine, Pacific North west cuisine etc. I have so many fresh ingrediants and so many various ethnic themes to choose from I have the privlage of making great food every night.
Also, there is no way that all Americans dislike British food. Bangers and mash, Fish and Chips (I'll have GOOD fish and chips prepared in the proper British way with a Bodingtons Pub Ale any day!), English peas, Hot crossed buns, Shepards pie, a full English breakfast with beans and toast are all very delicious!
Also, we have nothing on you in terms of beer! I will take an English beer over some mass produced American crap any day! Shepards pie and a British beer does right by me. lol!
Then again you have nothing on us in terms of wine. Some of the best wines in the world come from California.
Good food and good beer/wine is good no matter where it comes from!

Burgers are great!!! I like mine with cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, mustard and salsa.
The meat should be grilled, preferably over charcoal. The bun should be lightly toasted, and I prefer a sesame wheat bun. How can anyone criticize a well-prepared hamburger?
Hot dogs are a variation on sausage, which comes from several areas of Europe.
American cuisine also includes barbecue, rocky road ice cream, peanut butter, not to mention Thanksgiving turkey.
And--just for the record--I have NEVER complained about British food.

I am not American, and sure burgers and hot dogs are things that pop into my mind when I think American cuisine...
But really...they have some excellent chefs in New Orleans. Southern BBQ is great...think jumbalia...
BTW, English food is good too, but Eel Pie is best left for the English native, and not us.

Actually, both the hamburger and the hot dog are German derived foods. The hamburg steak was first served up in NYC with onions and no bun, and the "hot dog" first started as a bratwurst with a catchy name.

Then what about the turnover. . . .or cobbler. . . .?
Each culture has foods that are great and each culture has foods that are absolutely horrible. Personal opinion is the factor that sets these two extremes apart.
