I'm throwing a party and I was wondering if I could get some help with the music. Is some nice jazz or some funky hip hop a good idea for that kind of crowd?

A good general mix of tunes is probably the best option, check the recent charts for what's been popular for a few weeks. Get some feedback and ask some of the people attending what styles they listen to. I'd go for mainly dance tracks with a BPM around 100-120, recent top tunes such as Rihanna-Umbrella, Black Eyed Peas, Amy Winehouse-Rehab and others like that....Mix in some old cheesy classics from Donna Summer, The O'Jays & The Monkees for a rounded playlist

When a person talks about "their music" they usually mean the stuff they listened to in high school.

This age group would identify well with 80's and 90's music. Safety Dance Wang Chung, Men at Work, Toni Basil, GoGos, Madonna, Lionel Ritchie, etc. Check out the NOW that's what I call music mixes too. Don't forget country, you have Judds, Alabama, and Boot Scoot Boogie, as well as Achy Breaky Heart.

you can buy "Best Of" cds at the store that have a good variety on them, put your cd player on shuffle and let it mix it up for you.
