If I replace all my light bulbs with energy saving 1's, can I use timers with them?

So that nobody breaks into my house when i'm not at home? it's a good idea to leave the lights on. And i'm told that very few do work with timers so which 1's do?

I have been using low energy bulbs with timers since they first became available and now the price of the bulbs are so much cheaper its an added bonus with the bulb lasting so much longer. I like to come home to a welcoming lite house without leaving the lights on to long.

Yes of course they work with timers and contrary to other posts here you can also get ones which are dimmable too. This is a new development but all lightbulbs can be switched on and off manually or automatically. You can also get energy efficient lights which come on automatically when it gets dark or when someone approaches a sensor. I agree that lights coming on and off in a house implies to someone outside that someone is in but thieves are cunning devils (thats a polite version) and often test for real by ringing a doorbell or telephone if they know the number.

Yes. A timer just turns the power to a lamp (or other device) on and off. Works jsut as well with CF bulbs as regular ones.

Yes, of course. They are light bulbs after all. The only difference is that they use far less power than traditional bulbs.

Yes they do but not with dimmers and according to Which? magazine the best buys are the ones from Wilkinsons, Ikea and Sainsburys.

Technically, yes.
It would be better if you turned off the light when you didn't need it. That would be even more conservative.
