every time I buy a thing of yogurt (1/2 gallon I think) and leave about half of the thing left, after one day it always turns watery. is it still good to eat (or drink)? can I make it...not watery again? should I just freeze it? what should I do about my watery yogurt and is it still edible?

Just stir it, it's fine.

i do no longer understand regarding the bitterness. it could be which you heated the milk too a lot. It basically must be one hundred eighty* (boiling is 212*), and then cooled to 116* earlier including the starter. The wateriness comes from greater than a number of of here problems: a million. your starter develop into vulnerable so which you probably did no longer have sufficient of it (save-bought yogurt very almost unquestionably is weaker than a packet of yogurt starter) 2. the milk develop into too warm once you extra the starter (killing a number of it off) 3. your field had detergent residue in it (killing a number of the starter) 4. the yogurt develop into at too cool a temperature on a similar time as putting 5. there have been antibiotics interior the milk (the cow(s) offering the milk develop into injected with hormones interior of three days of giving the milk). you could fix those the two quickly or circuitously via including a tablespoon of gelatin and/or a million/4 cup dry milk powder in line with quart of milk. [And, what the heck is a yogurt maker? All you pick is a saucepan and an on the spot-study thermometer to make yogurt.]

If it is just separating out into a watery layer above the yogurt, then it's fine. Either dump it off (although it's not actually water, it's whey--and very high in protein) or stir it back in.

If, however, the entire container is turning liquid, it's probably because you have eaten straight out of the container. The digestive enzymes in your saliva are doing their job on your yogurt, only it's NOT IN YOUR STOMACH.

Pre-digested yogurt--ugh! Throw it out. Harmful bacteria (as well as the beneficial ones normally found in yogurt) can grow quickly in this environment.

Also, in the future, use a clean spoon to dish out the amount of yogurt you want to eat. Then dig in. Hope this helps.

Dump the water off and mix it up. You should try Greek Yogurt it's very good. I get the plain and mix in either fresh fruits or 2 tbs of all fruit.

That happens to me too. I just dump the water off the top and mix it up. It definitely is still good.

The enzymes in the saliva from your spoon is breaking down the yogurt. I would throw it out

Just stir it up, it'll be fine. This usually happens a lot to me, I have no clue why.
