Do you want cucumber or a pickle? You salt cucumber slices and allow to drain off the excess water. Rinse well, dry and proceed with recipe. I like sour cream, vinagar and sugar on mine.

Salt makes the taste of cucumber slightly different from no unsalted cucumber
but
pickles has sugar, vinegar and salt extra spicees and water
so
not all people wanted those extras in their cucumbers.
That's why.

If I wanted to eat a pickle I would eat one, Cucumbers are not pickles until you ferment them in vinegar and spices.

Some people don't like the ingredients used in pickling, but still want taste on an otherwise fairly bland food. Dill and vinegar don't agree with everyone.

They are two different taste! Pickles are made with vinegar and sometimes different flavors, while salt enhances the natural taste of the cuke. MMMMM

the purpose of salt when added to cucumber is to absorb all the moisture or the cucumber juice..so that it wont release any liquid when you serve it on plate..
