Can a 17 year old type 1 diabetic use Exubera insulin? if so, how does he start?

It is not indicated for use by a 17 year old. However his doctor could place him on it under his direct supervision. Exubera is a decent drug, but its a short acting inhaled insulin. WHich means he would still have to take his long acting insulin as well.

No.

The minimum age for Exubera is 18. Also, Exubera has not yet been approved for use by type 1 diabetics. As of now, it's only being prescribed for type 2 diabetes.

Another point...it shoud not be used by any person that has a history of respiratory disease (asthma, for instance) or by smokers.

Since Exubera is a fast acting insulin, any person using it would also require the use of a long acting insulin as well or have to continue on oral medications. While it may be approved for use by type 1 diabetics in the near future, for now it's mainly for type 2s.

EDIT: After looking at the news this morning, I read that Exubera is being taken off the market due to lack of interest and possible respiratory conditions that can develop. I guess it would have helped if I had gone to the CNN website before Yahoo Answers. Oops.

I'm a 45 year old woman and was recently diagnosed as being a borderline diabetic. My doctor prescribed some medication, but before filling it I decided to do some research on the internet which led me to the methods. After reading this ebook and applying the methods, my scepticism turned to 100% belief. I noticed that my energy levels increased significantly and I felt more rested in the morning, my symptoms started going away.

I am very happy to tell you that I have been feeling better than I have felt in years and my doctor informed me that he will be taking me off my prescriptions if I keep this up.

I recommend you use the Type 2 Diabetes Destroyer to naturally reverse your diabetes.

Doctors have been hesitant to prescribe exubera. My doctor had some info about it, but he said he really didn't recommend it because he felt it was more unpredictable than some of the injectable insulins. Plus there was some concerns that it could cause or aggravate lung cancer. It was also not safe for asthmatics to use.

It really hasn't ever sounded to me like exubera is the best solution for anyone.

Exurbera is being removed from the market because of its problems with the lungs and the oxygen uptake in even short term users. Other companies are trying different delivery methods that may work better. So for now you will have to stick with a pen, needles or a pump.

The insert says "You should not take EXUBERA if you are under 18 years of age or if you are allergic to insulin or any of the inactive ingredients in EXUBERA. "
So no, you probably can't use it at least until it is researched more in people under 18.

Well, Pfizer is taking Exubera off the market due to lack of sales, so whether you can take it or not is really a moot point.
