Please help me.....I am in shambles. I went to get my yearly physical today. The doctor the did usual, checked my blood pressure, listened to my heart and so on and so forth. He told me that my blood pressure was elevated (134/94). My BP has never been elevated until now. He talked about the South Beach diet and then sent me to do my labs. While waiting to do my labwork the ECG tech came and got me and told me to strip from the waist up and she started to attached these little "stickers" to my chest. The interpretation came out and she sent me on my way. I'm assuming that it was because of my BP being elevated.

Anybody that has experienced this or knows about it please let me know.

It is nothing you were nervous every one has this problem in annual. Relax and take it easy. Since you have not mentioned your age it's difficult to tell. If you are between 20 to 26 the readings are normals in excitement. Even elderly woman and male feel the same.
The BP will come down.

on one of my blood workups the K came back elevated, so the doctor wanted an ECG to check for heart damage. My BP was slightly elevated as yours was. Now the diagnosis is that I had a Silent Ischemia (sp?) and have a large audible murmur!!

It is just to make sure you are ok!

Always ask for an explaination on tests and also get copies of all ECGs and blood work!! then you can google any line you don't know what is and find out why things are maybe labeled high or low on the results paper.

My doctors mail all these results to me as soon as they have looked them over. Very considerate of them, I think, not to have to ask for the test results.

You are correct, an ECG is standard procedure for anyone with high blood pressure. High blood pressure is one of the major causes of heart disease, so your doctor was doing the right thing. The good news is that your ECG was probably normal, if something was wrong they would have told you about it right away.

That's right, it is a very standard procedure. When people have risk factors for coronary artery disease, such as hypertension (high blood pressure), they should be checked from all angles. An EKG could tell if your heart muscle is starting to enlarge due to hypertension. It could also tell if you have had a previous heart attack or to pick up arrhythmias. It is a very basic and painless test. It's good that you had it done.

I've had a zillion ECG's. One of the things they look for is changes in the plots. Your doctor now has a baseline.

Absolutely nothing to worry about.

* It is the gold standard for the diagnosis of cardiac arrhythmias[1]
* It guides therapy and risk stratification for patients with suspected acute myocardial infarction[2]
* It helps detect electrolyte disturbances (e.g. hyperkalemia and hypokalemia)[3]
* It allows for the detection of conduction abnormalities (e.g. right and left bundle branch block)[4]
* It is used as a screening tool for ischemic heart disease during a cardiac stress test[5]
* It is occasionally helpful with non-cardiac diseases (e.g. pulmonary embolism or hypothermia)[3]
