If you are looking for decorating ideas, go on down to your local mega-grocery store. In the bakery section, they have a huge book of ideas for cakes. Take the time to browse through the ideas and see what decorating idea comes to your mind. Sometimes the most simplest cake is best. Afterall, to is going to be eaten! As far as the kind of cake-I'd go for something basic and simple.
Food ideas-make it easy on yourself. Have the deli cater your party with meat & cheese trays. Mini-croissants and rolls, let your guests make their own sandwiches. Offer all the condiments-lettuce, tomatos, onion, mayo, etc.
Best of luck to you!

For the cake, you could have a little lamb cake with flowers around it. Wilton has a really cute pan for making it. You could do that or you could go to a specialty cake shop and have them make a stork cake with a pink bundle. Perhaps someone could take a picture of you (from your neck to the bottom of your tummy) while you're wearing a shirt that says "It's a girl!!". They can print the picture out onto an edible image and put it on a sheet cake with a pink border. That would be really cute. Depending on how many people are going to be there, you could have a two tier cake with scattered baby bottles/diapers/ rattles/ pacifiers/ pink bows all around the cake with a little baby cradle as a cake topper. All the little bottles or bows would be small and made of sugar, so it might be a little costy for something like that. You can just have a pink theme with varying shades of pink and get matching plates, cups, napkins, streamers, candy(like good and plenty 'cause they're pink) etc. Match the colors of your decorations with the colors on your cake!! That is a must, it ties everything in just perfectly!

You're giving your own shower???? I'm thinking that this should be done by a mother-in-law if you have one or a best girlfriend if you don't! Nevertheless, depending on what kind of party you have in mind, whether its ladies only or includes children and partners, you have many choices for foods and appetizers. Here are some ideas:
1. Dips and chips, olive tray, cheese and crackers, salsa and chips, guacalmole, hot bean and cheese dip, and mini tacos.
2. Cheese platter with fresh green seedless grapes, sliced cured meats, vege platter, and strawberries dipped in chocolate.
3. Spaghetti with meat sauce, angel hair pasta with fresh tomatos and basil, green salad, french bread, and fresh fruit platter.
4. Baked spiral ham with mini orange muffins and artisan breads, scalloped potatoes, fresh green beans with lemon, cheese platter, and fruit kabobs.
5. Hot artichoke and crab dip, teriyaki and buffalo chicken wings, mini hot dogs in crescent rolls, vege platter and fruit kabobs.
6. Flatbread sandwiches with turkey, green chili, cream cheese, and baby lettuce; roast beef with horseradish cream, tomato and jack cheese; portabello mushroom and pesto; vege platter with ranch dressing; chocolate fountain with cookies, poundcake, fruit etc. to dip.
7. Prawn and crab platter on ice with cocktail sauces; artichoke frittata; crackers and spreadable cheeses, asparagas with prosciutto; chocolate dipped strawberries.
The lists are endless, depending on budget, size and time of day your party is. For cakes? How about a white chocolate raspberry mousse cake?
