My blood pressure is 160/82, is this healthy? I just took my blood pressure medicine this morning, I have been feeling weird for the last half and hour so I checked it and thats what it was. Should I call the doctor?

That pressure is somewhat high if you are only 28 and are currently taking meds for it. Have you been under alot of stress today? that can cause a headache and a rise in bp. i'd say that since you are medicated for it and you are presenting with symptoms (headache), I'd go to the ER to get checked; there could be something going on that you wont be able to know without proper tests. Also, as for the people telling you to take your bp at least two or three times, don't. at least not in the same arm without awhile in between because when you take your bp the cuff squeezes your arteries and they constrict. the more you take it the more they constrict, resulting in a higher reading each time. you need to give your arteries some time to expand back to normal diameter.just a tip. Also, it is better and more accurate to have your bp taken by someone trained to do it as apposed to an automatic one...

Blood pressure measurements don't count for anything if you've been walking around. Ideally, you should be sitting down for at least 5 minutes or so. Blood pressure also can vary during the day, so it's best to get measurements from similar times during the day. No caffeine in the morning either. These measurements should be repeated on a few separate occasions. Some people get "white coat hypertension" when they go to the doctor's office because they are nervous. Probably blood pressure medicines wouldn't kill you. But you don't necessarily need blood pressure medicines if your blood pressure is only high while active. When doctors study the effects of high blood pressure, they study the effects of people who are diagnosed with it as described above. You are probably at no higher cardiac risk from your blood pressure.

How old are you? the 160 is high, but not drastic. The systolic number 160 is less worrysome than if the diastolic is high (over 90). Depends on what your pressure was when your MD decided to put you on meds for it. If your pressure was in the 90/60's before and suddenly shot up, thats pretty high. B/P can be dependant on each individual.
Feeling funny could be something I probably would call about though, especially if it's a new medication. Call and just even talk to the nurse. They will let your doc know there a problem if there is.
Hope this helps!

A lot of people feel headaches when their blood pressure is high. And 160/82 is definately higher than normal. It's not awfully high, but it sounds like you might need to get on another medication. Try cutting salt out of your diet. It's not something you need to visit the emergency room about, but I would make an appointment in the next week or so.

Your blood pressure is high, especially on the low number. Not dangerous though. I don't know how long you have been on b/p meds, but I have been on for the last 35 yrs. My pressure usually runs about 125-130/40-60. The point is I took seven different b/p meds until they found one that worked consistently on me. Sit down, relax, and take deep breaths. Breathe in through your nose and blow slowly out of your mouth for 5 min or so. Now take your blood pressure again. You will find that it has dropped. I would call my Doc and let him decide what is best for you.

I think it's too high. Especially if you are on blood pressure medication. It should be around 120/80 to 130/80. Yes I think you should give your doctor a call.
Personally, my problem is the opposite. Mine is always low around 100/80 to 105/80 and I sometimes feel faint.

120/80 or lower is normal blood pressure
140/90 or higher is high blood pressure
120 and 139 for the top number, or between 80 and 89 for the bottom number is prehypertension.
High blood pressure usually has no symptoms, but it can cause serious problems such as stroke, heart failure, heart attack and kidney failure, its always nice to ask your doctor if you have questions.....

BLOOD PRESSURE HAS TO BE TAKEN ON 3 SEPARATE OCCASIONS.WHEN A PERSON IS CALM AND LYING DOWN AT THE FIRST TIME.THE 3RD READING CAN BE THE CORRECT ONE. IN AN ADULT
UP TO 139/89 mm.hg. PRESSURE IS NORMAL.PAIN,EXCITEMENT,ANGER,OR ANY OTHER EMOTIONS CAN INCREASE THE B P TEMPORARILY IF YOUR B P IS TAKEN PROPERLY YOUR READINGOF160 IS HIGH. READING OF82 IS NORMAL.
THE FIRST (UPPER)READINNG IS CALLED SYSTOLIC PRESSURE AND THE SECOND(LOWER)IS DIASTOLIC PRESSURE IF THE 1stREADING IS RAISED IT IS CALLED SYSTOLIC HYPERTENSION.IF THE SECOND READING IS RAISED IT IS CALLED DIASTOLIC HYPERTENSION . BOTH SYSTOLIC AND DIASTOLIC HYPERTENSIONS HAVE TO BE TREATED.
IF YOUR B P IS TAKEN FOR THE FIRST TIME REPEAT READING FOR 2 MORE SEPARATE OCCASIONS WHEN YOU ARE CALM AND IN THE LYING POSITION AND CONFIRM THE B P. IF THE READINGS ARE STILL HIGH THEN ONLY YOU TAKE MEDICATIONS..
IF YOU HAVE HIGH BP IT SHOULD NOT BE TAKEN LIGHTLY.CONSULT YOUR DOCTOR
HOPE AFTER THE 3rd READING YOUR BP IS NORMAL

If that is an accurate read on your blood pressure you need to be seen soon. 160 is a little bit too high, 82 is not bad, but the top number is not, double check it and if it continues you should try to get into the doctors.

I would take it more that once. Take it three times and average them all. If you are using the auto type it will very. That is not that bed of a Blood pressure though.
