On my father's side of the family almost EVERYONE has diabetes (both type A and B, plus they are all overweight Itaians lol), and on my mothers side they are all underweight super tall french people with high cholestorol and blood pressure.
I know I am young but a few months ago I went on a diet, because I would have 2 whole pieces of white bread and 1/4 loaf of franchese bread each night (not including the BUTTER), I havn't had barely any bread since.

Am i still at risk for diabetes even though I rarely have bread and butter anymore? I also have a lower body fat% now.

eat a good normal diet, enjoy some sweets, and please, please, buy a glucose monitor kit..
I got mine for 8.00 at Walmar.. My family has a big history of Diabetes.. so I check it myself to see how I am before and after I eat a meal, and when I am not feeling too great.
I'm a pre Diabetic.. meaning, my sugar levels are a bit on the high side of normal, but if I eat too much at one sitting, and.or am stressed out, it goes a little higher.
Get the monitor, eat right, walk, dance, work out, whatever, and stay positive..

Eating bread and butter won't make you diabetic. Also, skinny people can become diabetic, its not just overweight who get it. Just because you have a family disposition does not mean you will get it either so try not to worry. Even if you did get it its not the end of the world !

Speak to your family doctor, explain that you are worried. Ask him to explain the risks and what you can do to avoid getting it

Well, technically, everynody who is not dead (which I assume includes you) is at risk for diabetes. Some people are simply more at risk than others. So, yes you are still at risk for diabetes (and probably more than the avg joe because of the strong family history), but you are reducing your risk by following a balanced diet.

anyone can get type 1 or type 2 diabetes at any age....and the fact that diabetes does run in your family increases the chances of you having diabetes

type 1 is usually found in kids or young adults...no amount of exercise or diet is going to prevent this type.

type 2 is usually found in overweight adults...diet and exercise will decrease the chances of developing type 2...but it doesn't mean that you will never develop it...people who diet and exercise can still develop type 2...its just not as common..

Your family history is against you, but you can probably still keep from getting it as long as you keep your weight down. Don't go on a crash diet, though--stay on a balanced diet, including bread, milk, meats, fruits and vegetables (fats in moderation). If you eat normally and exercise, and keep from gaining weight, you can beat it. It's in my family, too, and I have it, but I didn't develop it until I gained lots of weight. With some overweight people, they can even stop having symptoms if they slim down.

genetic predisposition to diabetes is what u have, what you eat wont affect this fact,u have to check ur blood sugar, and look for signs of hyperglycemia like polyurea, dry mouth, tiredness, loss of appetite, loss of weight.in recent years bc of increased numbers of over wieght children type 2 diabetes is becoming more common since fat cell secrete a substance that antagonize the action of insulin.

I would say yes because you are genetically predisposed to getting this disease. You cannot prevent getting it. you can only monitor and manage. I come froma family much like yours except spanish and i donot have it but there is a good chance i will so i get tested 2x per year. good luck
