My boyfriend just found out that he contracted Hep-C. We have unprotected sex, but is this contractable through sex? Or is it just through blood?

For someone that claims to be an RN, they probably need to re-up on their schooling. Hep C is transmitted ONLY from blood to blood contact. The only way to get it through sex is if blood is involved. So unless you guys were both bleeding during sex, you don't have to worry. My mom got Hep C from a blood transfusion in the 1960's and has been married to my dad for 35 years and he has never contracted it. I got Hep C from my mom when I was born and have been with my husband for 5 years and he has never contracted it. So, as long as you are careful around his blood, you don't have anything to worry about. Don't share razors or toothbrushes and if he cuts himself, don't touch him. Let him take care of it himself. It's not passed from saliva, sweat, tears, semen, or any other bodily fluid. So, just be careful with his blood. Good luck. If you have any other questions, feel free to email me.

Hep C is blood to blood. I rare cases and in mutiple patner relationships it can go through sex. it is a good ida to get checked but dont worry. Dont share toothbrushes, razors or nail clippers. I have had it for a while and my huband still is clean from it. Try not to have unprotected sex on your period or if there are any cuts or oen wounds down there. There are support groups and clases and lots of info online if you need it. Hep C is very common now.

The hepatitis C virus (HCV) is transmitted by blood-to-blood contact. In developed countries, it is estimated that 90% of persons with chronic HCV infection were infected through transfusion of unscreened blood or blood products or via injecting drug use or by inhalational drug use. In developing countries, the primary sources of HCV infection are unsterilized injection equipment and infusion of inadequately screened blood and blood products.
Although injection drug use and receipt of infected blood/blood products are the most common routes of HCV infection, any practice, activity, or situation that involves blood-to-blood exposure can potentially be a source of HCV infection. The virus may be sexually transmitted, although this is rare, and usually only occurs when an STD (like HIV) is also present and makes blood contact more likely.

hepatitis C is most certainly contractable thru intercourse, suggest you use condoms from now on, and have yourself tested for the disease in about two months.
