It's VERY common.
Approximately 20 million people are currently infected with HPV. At least 50 percent of sexually active men and women acquire genital HPV infection at some point in their lives. By age 50, at least 80 percent of women will have acquired genital HPV infection. About 6.2 million Americans get a new genital HPV infection each year.

Some cases of (HPV) estimates put the figure at one million new cases each year and a prevalence of 20 percent to 40 percent of sexually active women. Because HPV infection can have few or no symptoms, a majority of those infected may not even be aware that they have the virus. Just knowing a few simple facts can protect you and others from the infection. Always consult your doctor.

Okay, from what I read, the prevalence is about 27% in women and in young adults, the prevalence was even higher.
**edit** It doesn't only occur in females and having multiple partners only increases your chances - not the reason why you get the virus. Come on, it's a virus which means it has to spread from host to host, not when your number of partners increase to [insert magic number here]. People who believe that are morons - who may or maynot be foxy.

what do you mean the prevalence??? its a sexually transmitted disease that women get from having too many sexual partners.... it can lead to cervix cancer... if you are a teenager you can get that new shot thats out and limit your sexual partners
also uncircumsized men can cause more disease than circumsized men if they arent clean
