I've been feeling a little off; trouble consintrating, dizzy when I get up, and tired. So, I checked my blood presure and it was 98/54. Normally I'm 120/70. My bf is worried, but I rested all weekend, drank lots of fluids, and ate well. Last night it was up to 104/60 and I thought that was good. My symptoms are gone and my health insurance kicks in a few weeks. I told my bf I wil see a doctor then unless it goes back down. Should I be as worried as him or could it have been due to dehydration as I thought? (I'm 29 and a smoker.)

Yes, yes yes. It very well could be to dehydration. Kick in those fluids and plenty of them! Rise slowly from a sitting or lying position. Seems to be coming up slowly from drinking your fluids. Try drinking something with 'lytes' in them, such as Gatorade. Not going to harp on you about smoking, as you already know the effects of that. Just be careful about walking around when you are feeling dizzy.

Supplements: Calcium, Magnesium, Garlic, L Carnitine, L glutamic acid, L glutamine, Selenium, Co Q10, EFAs (flaxseed oil) Vitamin C, Lecithin granules and Vitamin E. A strict salt-free diet is essential, and all animal fats (meat and dairy) should be avoided. Primary protein sources should be from vegetables, grains and legumes. Avoid all alcohol, caffeine and tobacco. Fast for three days each month to periodically cleanse and detoxify the body. Get regular exercise, and keep your weight down.

that is not that low. My hubby walks around with a bp of about 78/44. I am more concerned about the 54 than the 98. When your insurance kicks in, see a doctor, or if you want make an appointment now for when ever the insurance kicks in so you won't have to wait.Maybe try not smoking, that does not help a low bp.My hubby is followed closely by several cardiologists due to many more problems than low bp. Normal bp's are 110/70.

yea, smoking doesn't help u'r health. i was a smoker so i won't give u any trouble there.
ok, u'r lower number is low. 54 is very low. 70 is low but not as bad.
too bad u don't have insurance. is there a clinic u can go to or call a hospital? some hospitals will let u go for free if u have no health care, u just fill out a form.
u should really be checked. what if it becomes too low while u r sleeping or driving?

One "off" blood pressure reading is not a concern for worry. It's when the readings are continuously "off" for a period of time. When you stand up, your blood pressure naturally drops because of gravity, it's called postural hypotension. Your blood pressure changes when you change positions from lying down to standing up. Sometimes people experience dizziness, it's normal.

Dehydration, and especially smoking, can make you feel off. You just may be a person who normally runs a low blood pressure. When your insurance takes effect, it's best to schedule a physical especially if you haven't had one in awhile!

Well it is better to have low blood pressure than high.

I dont really think the fluid balance has much to do with it,
home blood pressure testers are notoriously unreliable UNLESS they are the type where you take your BP on your upper arm. The wrist type are so reliant on the way you position your hand so as to be in line with your heart!

If you want to raise your BP try adding extra salt to your diet. This will work.

People with hypertension (high blood pressure) are told to REDUCE salt intake but not many people know that it is a good idea to take more salt to raise your blood pressure.

Good luck.

Mel, quit smoking & all stimulants , and do physical, and eat a healthy diet. Time to quit. As I think you are smoking too much.
Please pay a visit to your doctor he will sort out the problem for you.
It's better to be late than never OK.
Best of Luck.
