I live on a farm and really like little calves and I cant imagine them being killed for food. I just try not to think about it and usually I dont but it is quite sad

at least you're aware of where meat comes from. but it's not really your problem - humans eat meat, and have done forever. it's reared for the sole purpose of becoming food for us - so don't feel guilty about it.

I think you're at a transition point. I went through the same: the food tastes good, and it would be so much easier to just continue eating it, but on the other hand, you just can't help but feel guilty at the thought of what you're eating, right?

I've also thought in a way, vegetarianism wasn't that much of a choice. You get to a point where you just can't face eating another piece of meat. If that's where you're heading, then why insist? If you feel so uneasy about what you're eating, and you feel what you're doing is wrong, then just think how much better you will feel next time you see the calves knowing you're not killing them? Food tastes a lot better when it's ethical, believe me. There's nothing better than sitting down in front of a nice plate of food and knowing no animal was killed because of what's your about to eat.

Also, try going to a health shop and getting some fake meats in, if you miss the taste too much.

Yup, pretty sad.
My wife had a pet chicken. They ate the other chicken, but she had one that was her pet. Her mother purposely, one day, killed her pet chicken and served it for dinner without telling her.

It's different when we connect with the animals. Most of us just see the meat sitting there nicely packaged in the store and disassociate it with the actual animal. Hence, we do not say, "Baby Cow" we say, "Veal," a special disassociation word. It's a f*ck'n BABY and even when I ate meat I refused to eat babies.

If humans were meant/designed to eat meat, we would look at a baby cow (rat, rabbit, chicken, or whatever) and start salivating. We'd have the urge to chase it around and jump on it and bite it... Has never happened with me for any animal. Nor my kids. They just want to pet the animals and play with them.

That's the way I see it.

Like the others said, at least you are aware of the realities of meat, and the cruelty inherent to its production. I also used to enjoy eating meat and never thought I could give it up. However, the nastiness of meat production inspired me to stop one step at time, giving up pork, then beef, then chicken. Why don't you try cutting out some meat to begin with? Or maybe you could go meatless for a couple weeks, then allow yourself a period of meat eating, and trying being veg again for 3 weeks, eventually working up to longer periods? I think you'll find that the longer you go without meat, the less you will miss it!

At least you do feel bad for them which is a start because it shows you have at least a bit of compassion. I know people will keep on eating meat but I find it sad that people think more of their tastebuds than they do the suffering, pain and death of another living being.

you got to think about wheather you like meat more than the animals like life, if you dont, then why are you eating it? try not eating it just for a week as like a tester just to see how easy it is, and see how many replacents for everytype of meat you can think of, and all of them have less fat than their meat equilivent.

We don't kill animals we raise them for food.
Remember if your ancestors didn't eat meat you wouldn't be here.
