I'm a vegetarian and I want to know the types of candies that are gelatin-free and those candies that are not. Can anyone give me a list? Are the fruit-flavored tootsie rolls okay to eat? How about skittles?

Marshmallows contain gelatin. There are two vegan website companies that sell vegan marshmallows Vegan Essential and Pangea

Nestle products do not usually contain any meat-based products. The lecithin in their products is made from soybean.

Jolly Rancher’s Candies are made from Palm & Coconut Oil and do not contain any animal ingredients.

Starburst fruit Chews contains gelatin that is derived from pigs.

Crunch 'N' Munch made by American Home Foods contains vegetable fat and seems to be vegetarian.

A lot of candies contain gelatin or gelatine, derived from animals. Skittles contain the forbidden ingredient, don't know about tootsie rolls, you have to read the list of ingredients on the packet. Licorice allsorts are usually no-no, so are any soft chewy candies generally because of the gelatine. Read the packets before you buy them, - some chocolate (including Mars bars) contains egg, if you are a vegan.

If your Vegetarian avoid:

Gelatin
Lard
Pepsin
Rennet
Stearic Acid
Cetile Palmitate

If your Vegan:

Casein
Honey
Urea

PS: Good News! I just looked at the ingredients of flavored tootsies, and it all looks good, lots of soy. :)

skittles have gelatin, all of those little candy corn things also have gelatin, just about everything chewy has gelatin though, and if you aren't sure, read the label...

Most chocolates are safe if you're lacto, but I don't really know about those kinds. I don't really like them, so I'm not sure. I think if you go to their websites, it should give you an ingredient list.

You "can" eat anything you want. It's not some restrictive diet. It's a choice.

Why not read the ingredients?

Just stay away from the meat flavored candies.
