I love my uncle very much. But I just lost him through a heart attack. I have a couple of questions. If he had survived the first few minutes then does that mean he might have survived? If he'd had medical intervention after that point? If the medics had got there sooner could he have lived? There is no money involved. I just want to know if he would have survived if the ambulance turned up more quickly. Apparenlty his aorta burst. Could he have been saved? Is there any reason for me to start campagining against something or is there nothing that could have saved him?

If your aorta burst there isn't much that could have been done!! What was meant to be is meant to be. We all have to go sometime and it must have been his time. At least he didn't suffer for years. He is in God's hands and that makes him very happy and better off than we are. He will be with you forever. Sorry for your loss.

Hi Sandie

From what you have said, your Uncle died from an Aortic Aneurysm.

That is where there is a weakness in the aorta and it bulges and splits open. The aorta is the biggest artery in the body.

This is an extremely acute condition and is usually fatal. Even if your Uncle had been in a hospital there is probably nothing they could have done.

When the paramedics arrive and check his heart, all they can do is see if it is beating or not - they dont know why his heart stopped - they are not Doctor's.

All the best resusitation techniques in the world would not have saved him im afraid.

Your feelings of anger are perfectly normal so is looking for blame.

You have to try and put your anger to rest. Your Uncle has reached the final stage in his life - death - we all have to go there dont we, some sooner than others and death is always painfull.

You have to think and remember all the good times you and your family had with your Uncle, what made him so special to you? Why did you love him so much? Im sure he had a wonderfull life.

When the funeral comes, dont be sad, be happy - cellebrate your Uncles life and all the good times and be thankful that he is now at total rest.

Death is nothing at all
I have only slipped away into the next room
I am I, and you are you.
Whatever we were to each other
That we still are.

Call me by my old familiar name
Speak to me in the easy way which you always used
Wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow.
Laugh as we always laughed at the little jokes
We enjoyed together.

Play, smile, think of me, pray for me,
Let my name be ever the household word that
It always was.

Let it be spoken without effort,
Without the trace of a shadow on it.
Life means all that it ever meant
It is the same as it ever was
There is absolutely unbroken continuity.

Why should I be out of mind because I am
Out of sight? I am but waiting for you
For an interval
Somewhere very near
Just around the corner .
All is well.

God Bless your uncle, and god watch over you.

Your uncle probably would have died anyway, and just thank your ambulance crew for what they did do for him. They will have undoubtably made his last few minutes on this earth plane a lot more comfortabler than if he had been left to his own devices. A heart attack is quite painful, and without the help and medication Im sure the crew supplied him Im sure his 'journey' would not have been as comfortable.

We are left to 'wonder' constantly if more could have been done, and the Authorities know that these sort of questions are asked by family members left behind, sometimes feeling some sense of guilt that they maybe could have done more. But just by getting the ambulance there in the first place, Im sure your Uncle knows you did good by him... so please stop blaming yourself, and anyone else. His passing in this instance I feel was inevitable. At least feel glad in the knowledge that calling the ambulance made it a lot more comfortable for him...thats for sure

Sorry nothing would save you from a ruptured aorta, this is the main artery from the heart to the legs. The only option to avoid this is to have a scan which will show this problem but there are no symptoms to warn you of this condition
The wall of the aorta is normally 2cm diameter but if due to weakness of the wall may develop a bulge termed aneurysm. This may be treated either by surgery or a new method is to make an incision in each groin and insert a stent up to the aneurysm. This is performed under local anaesthetic. An aneurysm up to 5.5cm is believed to have a 5% risk of rupture per annum. above this treatment becomes vital

Sandie, the aorta is the main heart "pipe" if it burst there nothing that could have been done. I was fortunate my aorta was found to be "swollen" I begged them to operate and was told "not yet, it`s fine for now". My nurse told me if it bursts I would never make it to the hospital, the best that could be done would have been a "patch" that would only give about 10 mins extra. The long and short of it is, unless you are actually in hospital when it bursts, you do not stand a chance. Sorry for your loss, but it would have been fairly quick.

You could campaign against Heart Disease. It is completely preventable. It's also reversable/curable. I cured myself of Heart Disease at the age of 36. I am now 42 and in the best health of my life.

The information that saved me has been available to Doctors for more than 15 years. Yet Doctors are taught to fix you,not t tell you how to fix yourself.

For example the recommendations laid out by the American Heart Association have never saved anyone from Heart Disease. In fact following their dietary guidelines will actually promote Heart Disease. They just don't have the nerve to tell people what is really wrong.

You could learn about this and join those of us that are spreading the word. If you are interested get a copy of the film 'Eating' on DVD. Also get a copy of 'The China Study' by Doctor Campbell.

I've also included a link to my story. On my site you can see my Before and After pictures. I not only beat Heart Disease, I also lost 160+ pounds. I took things even further than even Dr. Campbells guidelines and now I live in perfect glowing health every day.

This really means a lot to me because before I made these changes, I had been sick my whole life. I was on 16 pills a day and under the care of 3 Doctors when my health was at it's worst. I walked away from them and their ideas and transformed my health and my entire life as well.

I hope this helps!

extremely doubtful that the paramedics could have saved him then- they are equipped with a defib to get the heart beating again - but the survival rate for cardiac arrest is still very low- your uncle having a bursty aorta complicated matters for him and i assume he would be bleeding internally- something unfortunately paramedics could do little about- a cardiac surgeon would be required to repair the aorta - am very sorry that you have lost your uncle and understand you feel very sad at losing him - am sure he loved you very much too xxx

If the problem had been detected days maybe weeks before its rupture then maybe something could of been done, but if the Aorta ruptures the severity of the blood loss would of most certainly of been fatal and no one would of been able to do anything to save him. Im sorry for your loss. x

not exactly a heart attack if his aorta burst.

take comfort that when it happened he would not have known much about it, when it burst he would have felt very weak and then very quickly passed out.

one of those things.
