Yeah, get take out.

There's NO way you will be able to prepare a Chinese meal for yourself for under 5 dollars. Even though the dishes you have at restaurants might SEEM simple, there are so many ingredients, sauces, and spices that you'd have to pretty much stock a section of your pantry with these items. They simply aren't items that your average pantry already contains. Think fish sauce, oyster sauce, bean sprouts, hoisin sauce, water chestnuts,...the list goes on.

Ok, get one pound of chicken breast. $1.49 (on sale) 1 can of crushed pineapple $1.00, 1 can of green chilis $1.00. Green onions $1.00. Garlic and Soysauce. Hopefully you have that. Cut chicken into bite sized pieces. Salt, pepper, and flour your chicken. (I hope you have salt, pepper and flour, too! LOL) Drain your pineapple. Mix 1 T. of flour or cornstarch into the pineapple juice. Add 2 T of soy sauce to the pineapple mixture. Saute your chicken in oil. Add the green chilis and pineapple until heated through. Stir in the pineapple juice mixture. Simmer until thickened. Serve this over 50 cents worth of rice. For information on how to make a stir fry, visit

Chicken & veggie stir-fry, rice and tea.
Fried rice.
It helps if you already have some soy sauce, oil, garlic, etc.
Or pick up one of those frozen stir-fries in the market.
