Lactose should make you think "lactation" as in milk produced by mammary glands of a mammal.

Soy is totally plant based. No animal sources, hence no lactic acid. Light or regular does not matter.

No it does not contain lactic acid.

I like to use "Eden Soy" brand ,though it is more expensive than others, because they dont' use cane juice to sweeten with.

Pacific foods makes a great hazelnut milk which is always my first choice and usually sold out at health food store. It makes the best smoothies that I've ever tasted. It is great in a cup of Roast Aroma Tea also, making it seem like a dessert.

No but soy milk isn't good for you anyway. Try rice milk, it's healthy, tastes more like cows milk, combines with things like coffee or chocolate for a better taste, has a thinner consistency and has a longer shelf life.

Not unless it was sweetened AND fermented. Soy milk is not fermented, to my knowledge.

Lactose is milk sugar. Lactic acid can be produced by animal cells and bacteria under anaerobic conditions.

The sour taste of miso (fermented soybean paste) is due to lactic acid.

If it's lactate or lactic acid, it's not from dairy (exception - sterol lactate due to the stearic acid). "Lac" ingredients are usually produced by a fermentation process using cornstarch or beet sugar. Lactose is always from dairy. Most ingredients made with with calcium are vegan (i.e. calcium carbonate, calcium phosphate, calcium sulfate). The exceptions are calcium caseinate and calcium stearate.
