it is starting to swell. She caught her nuckle on my sons backpack yesterday and it is red & swelling. She says it hurts. She won't let me take her to urgent care. She is going to put neosporine on it an a bandaid. Will that work?

Clean it with hydrogen peroxide before applying the neo-
sporin & this should take care of it.

Good advice from all answers. Clean it with soap and water first, making sure that the wound is washed and dried completely. (You can use hydogen peroxide but not necessary if you wash it properly.) Put on neosporin, cover with bandaid and change the bandaid frequently. Let it get air and dry out after 24 hours. If still red, swollen and feels hot to the touch, get a physician to look at it. Diabetics have to be so very careful with wounds.

Make sure its clean, wash, and watch to see if it gets worse. Give advil for pain. Urgent care may be premature at this time, but if it gets worse while you are treating it, I would suggest going. Watch her diet as well!
