Not eating sugar, while a good idea, will solve nothing. If you really want to help people, in countries where diabetes is a big problem, spread the word, that poor diet (too many carbs and fats), lack of exercise, and excess weight are literally killing us.
Trust me... it's not the sugar. Ever since my mother became diabetic in 1966 and her moron doctor told her it was the sugar, I avoided sugar like the plague. In 2004, I became diabetic ANYWAY. Since then, I've educated myself profusely on the subject and learned that sugar doesn't cause diabetes (for more on this, follow the link on my profile page). The best results are realized when one adopts a primarily raw vegetable diet, with some whole grains, fish or chicken breast, very little fats and refined carbs, lots of exercise, and good weight management. Many type two diabetics can get off their meds completely this way and most can at least reduce their use of meds by following this simple formula. I, along with thousands of others, are living proof. It's not rocket science, and few doctors will tell you this.
One need look no further than rural civilizations that still live off the land and stay active throughout their lives to see that healthy living is the best way to avoid (type two) diabetes. It's really that simple.

Nick Jonas has Diabetes? I have type one Diabetes too and I know that it can sometimes be really hard to stay away from sugar but I've gotten very used to it! I definately don't think that's weird. Diabetics can still have sugar, like when our bloodsugar gets low, or if we need to have it for activities like soccer. But lots of things have sugar so sometimes you can't really help it. Supporting Nick Jonas can mean supporting all Diabetics so thanks! :) I think that everyone should start cutting down the sugar like what you and your friend are doing, everyone would be more healthy! Where did you hear that he has Diabetes anyways...?

its nearly impossible to not eat sugar..EVERYTHING has some kind of sugar in it...the only way you're not gonna eat sugar is by not eating anything at all
the main thing a diabetic watches is the amount of carbs they eat ...not the grams of sugar...the carbs are what make the blood sugar rise...
Nick Jonas cant just stop eating carbs(sugar) otherwise it will mess up his blood sugar (his sugar would be low a lot)
I guess if you want to support him you could cut back on carbs and watch your portions
...and yes i do think you're weird for doing this...i dont think it will last long for ya though....no soda....hardly any candy (diabetic might eat some when their sugar is low...which you wont have)....less desserts....yea pretty much NO junk food
have fun being a fake diabetic:)

You are helping him. I wish I had the same courage. I try to support my husband, following his diet. We all love sweets, eat fast foods. When we go some where to eat out. I encourage my husband and support him by eating the right amount of food. I hate to go to buffets. Because he goes over board. If you feel comfortable supporting him, it is ok. But also think of yourself, is this what you want to do. You can loose weight along the way if needed. Your friend has to learn how to controll his diet. And sometimes we won't something different than what the other person eating. That's ok to. You are a great person to support him and following the diet. But go with what you feel is right. I want sweets at times. I could do with loosing weight. But I won't my husband to know I support him. He get's upset at me for staying after him about his diet. I'm not always there when he eats. It his body, he knows he got to support his diet. He not a child, but I understand wanting something sweet. It like a child. If they want something, there going to scream and kick, until we give in. When we should say no. It not weird for you to support him. Let him know this is what you want to do.

I also have diabetes. (Type 1)
Having diabetes doesn't mean that you
don't eat sugar. Almost everything has some
form of sugar in it, and you need it to stay alive.
So don't give up sugar all together. Just take it in
moderation, like Nick.

We in North America & the West eat far too much sugar.
Trouble is, the substitute sweeteners are even worse.
What about giving up soda soft drinks too?
Refined white flour is almost just as bad for you.

It is weird if you don't know him personally. He has no idea of what you're doing right? So, what's the point? Just to be in moral support of him w/o him knowing. Seems a little weird (senseless) to me.
