Star26. Angina and chest pain or chest discomfort is nothing to play around with. Been there and done that many times.
You should insist your dad see a Cardiologist asap. This tells me that he has some blockage of some magnatude in his arteries. Remember, denial is the first symptom of heart problems.
EKG's only show a problem if there is a problem going on at the time. An abnormal EKG will show any old infarctions etc.
Please, get your dad to the Cardiologist and keep him around for many more years. IM no newcomer to this. I have had 3 Open Heart Surgeries, an ICD, and just had a Left Ventricular Assist Aevice (LVAD) installed in June. Never thought I would see the year 2000. I've seen 8 Grand Children and life is wonderful. Keep it that way for your dad.

If he's worried it's probably best he speaks to his Dr again. I have a heart condition and often get the same feeling of breathlessness and a feeling of indigestion. I often suffer from an irregular heart beat, and when this happens that is how I feel. It comes and goes so when I go for my regular check up the ECG can be normal, if my heart is beating regularly, or show the arrhythmia when it's not. You really are better to talk to a cardiologist but if it is arrhythmia it can be sorted easily with drugs. Hope that helps a little.

If they did an electrocardiogram (ECG, EKG) and it came back normal than it was not his heart causing the pains (as long as he was having the chest pains while the test was going on). I used to have mild chest pains and it was from stress. I had numerous tests run which all came back normal and once I found out I was alright they stopped because I stopped thinking I was sick. Also, panic/anxiety disorder can create the feeling of not being able to breath and chest pains. He should see a cardiologist to make sure though since he has suffered a mild heart attack before.

Is he in good shape? was this the first time on the bike since the mild heartattack?
He has to exercise and eat right everyday.
Having him slow down while exercising and
having the rest of the family learn CPR. Might help put your mind, as well as his, a little more at ease.
Have him try walking instead of riding a bike
he may need a slower pace to start off.

your dad definitely needs to see a doctor. having plaque in the arteries causes them to narrow which allows just enough blood through to pump the heart so doing lite things may not have troubled him and the real concern could have laid dormat for some time. if his activities are now more challenging to his health, the doctor through tests can pin point whether he is a smoking person or rising cholesterol is the problem. (you know?) whether your dad has stable or unstable angina. god bless.

He may have congestive heart failure and should find a specialist and get more testing. It may help to be sure he has proper nutrition and especially check for calcium, magnesuim and potassium imbalances. Also, check out a book by Dr. Julian Whitaker called Reversing Heart Disease.
Many problems can be helped by nutrition instead of drugs.
Good luck!

He should be seeing a cardiologist every so often for checkups. ECGs can only pick up a problem if it is happening during the ECG, which is not always what is happening...

this is called the "overactivity-rest" cycle. Mrs Eep used to train angina patients to pace themselves through their recovery. Google for "angina management programme"
