OF COURSE you have to exercise. Number one, it's good for you and you cannot possibly be healthy if you live a sedentary lifestyle no matter what your diet is. Number two, losing weight is a function of burning off more calories than you consume. Exercise burns calories, a key part of that equation. If you want to lose weight, the easiest thing to do is eat a little less and exercise a little more.

OK, there are different ways to lose weight.
1. eat less [not a good option].
2. eat more healthy [good option]
3. exercise more [good option]
4. exercise more intensively [even better]
5. become a runner/bicycle racer [best]

See, take a look at athletes.
Let's take a look at distance runners and bicycle racers.
There is not a one of them that is overweight. Nope. Impossible. See, you can eat all you want and whatever you want and can be thin through exercise. Eating better and more healthy food will make you a better athlete, and a healthier person, but will not necessarily make you thinner. It's about metabolism. Metabolism is where you train your body to either conserve [store] energy, or utilize energy. So, if you train your body to get ready for exercise, it will not store your food as fat, but get ready for you to start running or cycling and focus on putting it into your muscles and your temporary storage places. If you exercise enough, your body will automatically work more efficiently, and you will find that bad food will easily hinder performance and even make you sick and your body will start to become more 'vocal' and demand healthier food. Exercise and healthy food go hand and hand. Try eating a doughnut after a race or downing some soda pop... you'd likely throw up. I've seen people do it. So, sure, a purely healthy diet will eventually also lead your body to it's natural level of weight etc., but exercise will spur it into overdrive and get the gears going. I highly recommend joining a local cycling club and trying do to some races etc. Learn to push yourself and raise your fitness level, thus raising your metabolism and lowering your excess fat storage. No, you will not start looking like a man if you exercise. Anyway, that's my two cents worth...

you should always exercise, not only does it help you loose weight but it keeps you healthy.

i hope you are not just a vegan to loose weight. this alone will not help you loose a significant amount of weight (you need to exercise). if you are using veganism as a diet tool i would suggest you stop. there are other ways to loose weight which would probably be more effective and (in my opinion) its slightly offensive to be a vegan solely for this reason.

You need to make certain you're getting _enough_ calories, so your body doesn't go into starvation mode. Vegan, vegetarian, omnivore, it all comes down to calorie consumption, fat and fiber vs how many calories you're burning.

If you lose weight too fast, you'll lose muscle. Losing 1-2lbs a week is great. In either case, as you lose weight you will lose some muscle even if you're losing at an appropriate speed, so exercise will both help you to burn more calories, And help you maintain muscle mass.

Muscle burns more calories than fat.

It's possible to lose weight by diet alone (any good diet, not just Vegan), but it's always much easier to take it off and keep it off if you combine diet with exercise.

Plus, you should be exercising even if you aren't on a Vegan diet.

Exercise has nothing to do with being a Vegan. If you want to have good mental health and a nice body and good over all health, please, exercise, drink plenty of fluids, and have a valid protein source.

No matter what diet lifestyle you choose, you should exercise. Not only to maintain a healthy weight, but to keep your heart pumping!

I would see a registered dietitian as most of the advice on here is not nutritionally sound.

With that said, everyone needs to exercise to be healthy.

Consider the fact that Coke and french fries are vegan...It's about the calories...
