the upper chambers of the heart are called the atrium and the lower called ventricles. normally, the atrium contracts then blood moves to the ventricle.this is done in synchony....when the atrium contracts erratic and rapid and the ventricle does not, this is known as a.fib.....some causes are:
heart valve disease diagnosed by an echocardiogram
alcohol
thyroid disease,dx by blood work
hypertension
pulmonary diseases(lung problems)
just to name a few....
when this irregular rhythm becomes rapid, complications can occur.
you need to see a cardiologist, sometimes the dr may want you to take a pill to thin your blood to avoid clots in the heart that can break loose and cause trouble!!!
there are other procedures/meds to help....
please go to heart dr....
good luck
