No not really. They just need to pay attention to the number of carbs and sugar in the food. My dad is an insulin dependent diabetic, and he can eat anything. He just has to calculate the carbs to units of insulin he needs to take.

· Below is a short summary of food suitable for diabetic patients.

* Fats and sweets. Fats and sweets can be integrated in a diabetic patient's diet, but in small amounts only. Please bear in mind that fats and sweets should be integrated with, and not added to, an existing diet.

* Milk. It is highly recommended that diabetic patients should take in 2 to 3 glasses of milk per day. Choose nonfat varieties as much as possible.

* Meat. It is highly recommended that diabetic patients should enjoy only 2 to 3 servings of meat per day. Fish and chicken are advised instead of red meat.

* Fruits. It is highly recommended that diabetic patients should take in 3 to 4 servings of fruits per day. Fruits that have high fiber content are preferred over other varieties. Fiber helps the body break down glucose.

* Vegetables. 3 to 5 servings of vegetables per day will help complement the body's fight against diabetes.

* Grains. No less than 6 servings of grains and related products are advised for diabetics. Grains contain a large amount of fiber, which is the most helpful nutrient for diabetic patients.

Yes, it is very important for a diabetic to eat a low fat,low carbohydrate diet. One that includes whole grains such as 100% whole wheat bread, oatmeal..etc... Low fat milk 1% or skim. Small fruit 3 times a day. Small portions of low fat meat, about the size of a deck of cards, such as chicken, baked or grilled. Needs green salad /with light dressing. Low fats, such as 1 tablespoon light butter. 1 starcy vegtable at each meal such as a 1/2 cup corn. Snack, 1/2 cup of sugar free jello/with dab of light Cool Whip.

A woman needs about 4 carbs at a meal and a man needs 5 carbs each meal. 22 grams is considered 1 carb. example: 1/2 cup peaches without sugar is 12 grams of carbs= 1 carb.

I hope this helps. this is the diet that our dietitian put my husband and me on. We are both type2 diabetics.

Yes, low in sugars (includes carbs and fruit). My mother was a diabetic and had to change most of her eating habits (i.e. she loved white bread but had to give it up for whole grain).
Check with your doctor for specifics for one's own diet.

yes, they need to control their sugar levels, so a diet is based upon sugar content, eg if sugar is low they should get chocolate bar

Control that sugar level. Too high and you risk cardiac arrest, too low, you can go into a coma.
