Ok, I am a vegetarian. And I was woundering if we can have rice Krispies treats. Because My friend is Mislim and she can't have marshmallow's because it has pig fat or something in it and its considered as forbidden or sacred (i forgot with animal is which to her). Can I have it?? Please no hate comments!!!

By the way Tina danielle, umm I am sorry but read the contents on a marshmallow bag or something, cause it contains gelatin, and that is made of a pig. I was not positive if it was until now, i also looked it up on the internet.

Yes, Marshmellows are made of "geletin" wich is basicly boiled pig feet. Same with jello, Anything with geletin isnt vegetarian. if your vegetarian you can still have things like milk eggs and honey and such, but nothing that was choped off of an animals body. Read the ingridiants on everything, you never know what can come up. There are marshmellow substitutes you can buy that are made with seaweed instead of someones feet. Good luck on vegetarianism! take a look at these 2 websights they pretty much answer all your questions!

You can get Vegan Sweets brand marshmallows from several online sources & there *might* be other vegetarian marshmallows but I don't know of any.
Also, some brands of marshmallow creme (the gooey stuff in jars) don't contain gelatin but may have egg white, which is acceptable for some vegetarians but not vegans. If you don't mind the egg, you could adapt the recipe to use marshmallow creme instead of whole marshmallows.
It is my understanding that gelatin usually comes from both cow & pig bits, occasionally fish or other animals too.

It depends on if you care about gelatin or not. Gelatin is in marshmallow which is used to make rice krispies treats. Gelatin is obtained when you boil the hooves, ligaments and tendons of slaughtered animals. It is found in many candies, gum, personal products such as lotions, jell-o and other stuff. It's a vegetarian's personal preference. I'm vegetarian and I avoid it. For more information, check out caringconsumer.com and maketheconnection.co.nr

I don't think there are any pig products or gelatin in rice krispies.
Marshmallows have gelatin. Muslims and Jews do consume gelatin but only if it has been certified halal/kosher and is not from a pig. Vegetarians don't consume gelatin at all.
If you're referring to the marshmallow-containing rice krispies thingies from Kelloggs, no, she cannot have them.

Gelatin is a slaughter by-product, so vegetarians do not eat it. You can order vegan marshmallows online and make your rice krispie treat with them - no gelatin.

Depends upon what the source of the gelatin is that the marshmallows are made from. Usually it's an animal source.

Vegetarians shun meat and slaughter-by producs.. In other words.. if an animal had to die so I could eat that .. I don't eat it.
Marshmallows, used in Krispie treats.. unfortunately do contain Gelatin, which is made from boiled pig's hooves.. That is why your muslim friend does not eat them, and yes, it IS a slaughter by-product, so most vetgetarians avoid it.

Please do not lump all vegetarians into one pile. Vegans are people that do not eat meat, by products, eggs or dairy. Many vegetarians eshew all products with gelatin - including Jr. Mints, Altoids, Oreos, Necco wafers and Jello.
There are also marshmallow that are made with agar instead of gelatin.
