Tofu, being made from soy bean curds, does naturally have phytoestrogens, which might be what you're thinking about. Some women will have tofu to boost their estrogen levels as an alternative to pills or injections. Don't get the idea that manufacturers are deliberately injecting any such thing into this traditional Japanese food. That would be like suggesting that milk producers deliberately add growth hormone into their product. It would be downright dangerous and illegal.

No, tofu is perfectly safe as far as I'm aware. Chickens have plenty of hormones and drugs though. That's another reason I'm a proud veggie!
