Is it an epidemic? Why do so many people, especially guys get off on it?

I can see how porn is hurtfull to everyone in that it leads to a mental imprint of a partner that cannot exist and so all real partners fall short in comparison.

The problem is, evolution played a dirty trick on mammals. The male is so horny most females can't match his desire and so the relationship is always under pressure. Male mammalians MUST have sex in some form, it's a biological necessity because they're always making sperm and it has to get out of there or they'd blow up in a cloud of whipped cream.

Porn releases some of this pressure but if it's worth the bad side effects, I don't know.

Pornography itself isn't a bad thing, but how it is made and presented is harmful. Degradation. dominance, human ideals that can't be obtained without tons of makeup, lighting and plastic surgery. These things damage our views of ourselves. The impossible ideals do effect both men and women, and how they treat each other in our societies.
I wouldn't call pornography the epidemic, I would lay more blame on the larger mass media we all access on a daily basis.

It exists because men (and some women) are sexually stimulated in a visual way. I don't think it's good or bad, it just serves a need for some people. I don't see how it can cause any harm as long as people who like it keep it private and don't bother people who find it offensive.

On another level, it might cause some people to be exploited. But I don't really know enough about that to make an intelligent comment.

It's only a bad thing if univited or it becomes an addicition. That's just me. That's assuming whatever form of it was consentuall and whoever is in it was legal.

I think...now this is just my thoughts...that people's imagination gets old. That's all. It's definatly not limited to guys though. I think they are just more open about it...or get caught more. I have a feeling though that women use some form of it just as much..maybe more than guys. We just hid it better is all.

Yes it is an epidemic
Guys are mostly attracted to it due to their need for sexual pleasure or pleasure that they need from something that isn't there. But guys aren't the only ones. A few girls are huge porography addicts. This doesn't help either of them out in the long run due to the effects on the mind.

Effects:
When a man watches something like porography or engages in sexual activity, everything that is seen, heard, smelled, and so on is kept in his brain. This will be hard in the long run when they find a woman who can satisfy their needs but instead of seeing that woman in their head, all they can do is think of the other women that they have slept with or saw in porn.

1.don't be so biased guys aren't the only ones that view porn.
2.mostly because guys want to get of on it that's why they do it.

I think it is not a bad thing...adult porn that is. people that watch it are aroused by watching others, and though adult porn they can without getting arrested. if it is an epidemic it is one that has been around for thousands of years...starting with drawing of course, and evolving as technology evolved.
