you should serve a whole bunch of "baby" or "mini" things. like mini cheeseburgers, mini quiche, baby back ribs...stuff like that.

I think fresh foods such as a pretty plate of colorful cut up fruit. You can cut them up in different shapes or use cookie cutters. A fresh vegetable platter with a few different dips maybe tuck some chunks of cheese in with the vegetables. A jello mold ( there are a lot of recipes for them) I like a mold that you make with orange jello with shredded carrots in it. For something sweet, Oatmeal, raisin cookies ( home made) I think things like that would be healthy and appropriate for a baby shower. As for a punch recipe, you probably have a better one than I do. Something sort'a healthy you could try is, Orange soda, sprite, cranberry juice and frozen strawberries. Just mix them all together after the strawberries thaw. Hope this helped. I'm sure the baby shower will turn out great.

If you can financially afford this, most grocery stores have a catering section at the deli. Mini-croissant sandwiches and finger food are perfect for a baby shower! Make it easy on yourself as the hostess.

As far as the punch goes, JMO remember, but every shower I have ever been to did not have a great punch. Don;t know why, but no one really drank it. It didn't look good with the frozen berries and half melted sherbert. You're better off with pitchers of fresh Iced Tea, Lemonade, bottled water and soft drinks.

Maybe have various kinds of dip, such as spinach, ranch, bean and cheese to go along with some crackers or chips. A veggie tray, fruit tray, cocktail weiners, sausage balls and quesadillas. I don't have an unusual punch recipe, except for the usual: fruit juice, ginger ale, pineapple juice and an assortment of fruit slices (cherries, apples and grapes.)

I would put some fruit punch with pieces of fruit in it and may be a little vanilla icecream to smooth it out. Kind of like a smoothie. :-)

Cucumber sandwiches.
Little wieners baked with bacon and brown sugar. YUM-O! (if you need more detailed recipe on this one, let me know)
Fruit Salad
Crackers/Cheese/Salami

Light and simple. :-) And yummy!

- Apple cider (if you want liquored-up punch, add spiced rum); float some lemons and cinnamon sticks in the bowl.

- Quiche or tomato tartlets.

- Salad or crudite platter.

- Mixed olives or a plate of crackers and tapenades/spreads (at my friend's shower, we used olive tapenade, sundried tomato spread, and lemony hummus, each in its own bowl)

- Meringues in pink or blue, depending on the gender of the baby, and some cut up fruit on skewers

BABY SHOWER SANDWICH SPREAD/DIP

1 (8 oz.) pkg. softened cream cheese
1 (3 oz.) pkg. smoked beef lunch meat
1-2 tbsp. finely chopped onion (depending on taste)
1-2 tbsp. Worcestershire sauce (depending on taste)

Blend all ingredients together. Refrigerate at least 1 hour before serving. Great as a sandwich spread and also good on celery sticks. Super easy!

SHOWER CAKE

2/3 c. butter
1 c. heavy or whipping cream
Sugar
1 c. unsweetened cocoa
6 lg. eggs
2 tsp. vanilla extract
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 c. all-purpose flour
White Chocolate Glaze (follows)
Chocolate Leaves (follows)

About 4 hours before serving or early in day:
1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees F. Grease bottom only of 9 inch springform pan.

2. In 2 quart saucepan over low heat, heat butter, cream and 3/4 cup sugar until butter just melts. Remove from heat; stir in cocoa. Freeze mixture, stirring occasionally, until slightly thickened, about 15 to 20 minutes.

3. In large bowl, with mixer at low speed, beat eggs, vanilla and salt just until mixed. Add flour and 3/4 cup sugar. On high speed, beat until very light and fluffy, about 5 minutes. Stir about 1/4 of egg mixture into cooled chocolate mixture then fold all of chocolate mixture into remaining egg mixture. Pour batter into pan. Bake 55 to 60 minutes until cake is firm in center. (Cake will be very moist when done; standard tests for doneness cannot be used.) Run thin-bladed knife around edge of cake to loosen from side of pan. Cool cake completely in pan on wire rack (cake will fall and leave a deep indentation). Remove side of pan.

4. Prepare White Chocolate Glaze; spread over cake. Refrigerate until glaze is firm.

5. Prepare Chocolate Leaves; use to garnish cake. Makes 16 servings. Each serving: About 470 calories.

WHITE CHOCOLATE GLAZE:

In 1 quart saucepan over very low heat, melt 12 ounces white chocolate (or four 3 ounce Swiss confectionery bars or two 6 ounce white baking bars), 1/3 cup confectioners' sugar and 1/4 cup shortening.

CHOCOLATE LEAVES:

In small saucepan over low heat, melt one 6 ounce package semi-sweet chocolate pieces (1 cup) and 4 teaspoons shortening. In another saucepan over very low heat, melt 3 ounces white chocolate and 1 tablespoon shortening.
Rinse and dry 16-20 medium sized lemon leaves. Spread semi-sweet or white chocolate mixture on underside of leaves. Refrigerate until firm. Peel each leaf from chocolate. Repeat with remaining chocolate.

SHOWER SURPRISE

2 1/2 c. graham cracker crumbs
1/2 c. granulated sugar
3/4 c. melted butter
1/2 gallon strawberry ice cream
1/2 c. pineapple juice
1/4 c. cornstarch
1 c. granulated sugar
2 c. crushed frozen strawberries

Combine cracker crumbs, 1/2 cup sugar, and melted butter. Mix well and press firmly into 13 x 9 x 2 inch pan. Bake 15 minutes at 350 degrees. Chill thoroughly. Soften ice cream and spread over crust. Place in freezer until glaze is ready. Cook pineapple juice, cornstarch, and 1 cup sugar until thick, stirring constantly. Add strawberries and cool. Spread over ice cream and freeze until ready to use. Excellent dessert to make ahead. Makes 12 servings.
