so what i,m wondering would there be lead in the plastic seat that is causing the grass to die

Probably the kids always swing on the middle one. So it isn't the seat, it is the fact that the other 2 swings never get used. All those kids feet trampling the grass under the swing that gets the most use is the problem.

If you buy some chicken wire, roll it out beneath the swings and pin it down with tent pegs, this should stop the grass being worn away. You can then mow it when it grows through.
You can buy matting to do this job but it would cost about £65, see the link.
