Yes. This is actually very common, and is known in expert circles as Dendrofoamophilia. His is slightly more specific as he prefers Aspens, but it would be entirely possible to transfer his affections to another species. Start with something similar, preferably smaller, and carry on gradually increasing his exposure to a variety of species, getting smaller each time until eventually, he finds he can get satisfaction from a bush.

Aspens are nice as they have smooth bark. As for the Hickories....well they didn't name them shag bark for no reason....ouch....LOL funny question.
On the serious side:
If he gets any weirder than what he's doing you might want to research it further or talk to the head doc. He doesn't go in public with shaving cream/nipple thing does he? That would be cause for some concern. I had a "normal" friend once, a fellow engineer I worked with who used to like to dance around on bubble pack with his bare feet. I think you should be able to do things like this in private. Life isn't the easiest thing to cope with often so if these activities help a person, well it's better than being an alcoholic, right? Or smoking.?
It may be considered inappropriate coping behavior but many do some things like this. As long as he's not hurting others or himself

Hi Egg,
This friend of yours. Are you talking about me? If so it's just platonic between me and the aspen trees so stop saying I have a fetish. There's nothing weird about shaving cream either so just stop implying things ok!

If it's just Aspen trees that's quite normal.
If he becomes totally indiscriminate about the type of tree he's attracted to, take him back to the clinic.
I believe the medical term is "barking mad".
Edit:
Phytophilia is a love of all plants, so he's not yet beyond saving.

It is not a medical condition, it is quite common and not generaly thought to be a problem. I must admit wearing shaving cream on the nipples is new to me, but i suppose it does no harm, at least compared to wearing earplugs and a blindfold.

i think your friend has lost it, sorry to hear he has a fetish for trees, they are only going to bark back at him, unless one falls and limbs on top of him, then it is going to be a leafless corpse under that tree
I hope you get to the root of the problem before autumn. Branch out your question into other areas as well your sure to get some good answers

people always say they have a friend when it is really themselves they are talking about.
And its cool you have slippery nipple tree syndrome ,it is very common .it means you are a closet tree hugger,
Be brave .come out
go for it follow your desires and see where it leads, as long as the aspen don`t object you have nothing to worry about

He likes to have his teats played with. Touch them for him and lick them
You might want to use whip cream, shaving cream tastes kind of nasty.
