Every energy option is absolutely necessary, including coal and oil. Our modern technology is totally dependent on energy and with China, India and other countries on track to develop to the same extent as Europe and America, the world will need MUCH more energy. And when the oil and coal run out, we need to have the alternatives already running.

With energy prices rising it will be more and more important to increase efficiency, If everyone in the country turned off thier mobile phone cahrgers when not using them that would save the power output from a nuclear plant.

We should go for renewable energies in order to tackle climate change and increase 'energy security' as the percentage of fossil fuels coming from abroad, especially Russia, is increasing.

There will always be a need for a mixture. Renewables (solar and wind) will always need to backed-up with fossil fuels and nuclear.
Keep in mind that it is not always that easy. As wind farms get constructed, we have to find a way to get them on the electrical grid transmission lines. New transmission will have to be constructed.
Energy companies are also concerned with cost. Nuclear and coal fired plants are expensive to build. Gas plants are expensive to operate. To keep rated low, Coal is the best answer.
This is where the politics get nasty. Gas companies will use all there leverage, including environmental organization, to prevent coal plants from cutting into their profits.
We, the consumers, may end up with a very large electric bill. That might be the best way to enforce conservation?

Nuclear combined with conservation is the only way we can produce the massive amount of energy we need and make a real difference in pollution. Solar, Wind, etc. will help, but can't produce the amount of reliable 24/7 energy we need.

Definitely going to be hydrogen and its going to be an amazing invention just as the home computer , cell phone ,man on the moon , satellites in space was . Look at all the inventions that we keep creating that years ago people said was impossible . All the great inventions where made by people thinking out of the box and believing that everything is possible . Just because one scientist said its impossible does that really mean it is or was it impossible for him.

Its going to be another one of those inventions that everyone is going to say i wish i would have invested in that when it was cheap but every one told me it was impossible

We need a diversity in energy, particularly renewable energy sources. It would also be ideal that nations be able to support themselves primarily through domestic energy sources.

Coal will be a big factor. It is very abundant, especially in the USA.

It is cheap, plentiful and produces the environmentally harmless gas, CO2.
