My wife is caughing and has no voice (been that way for 3 or 4 days). Is there anything that she can do to help her recover or lessen her symptoms. She's a teacher and cannot work.

Please Help!

Firstly if it lasts more than two weeks, get her to the doctor. It can be an underlying cause of something else such as GERD (acid reflux).

Rest the voice and add a humidifer/vaporizer to the room where she sits and sleeps. Moisture in the air helps. No smoking or being around smoking. You can also have her inhale steam from hot water in a bowl. Use a towel to cover her head. Get her some lozenges, gargle with salt water, anything to keep the throat moistened.

And believe it or not, whispering strains your voice more than actual talking, so avoid that :)

Hope she feels better soon. What a nice hubby you are for posting here :)

Make her several cups of hot tea with honey mixed in . It soothes the throat and don't speak. Not even a whisper. She should be good as new in a few days of rest.

Unfortunately My wife has ( many years ago) seen me drunk, quite a few times, but has never complained. For some years now, I have never drank alcohol. Have seen the light. LOL ( of day)
