Go with the Quorn brand "turkey" roast. It's delicious!!!

I didn't purchase one to eat at home because at the time (Thanksgiving '06), I was still a meat-eater and I had chicken instead of turkey.

But they were handing out samples at a certain Hawaiian-themed grocery chain store I work at, and I thought it was delicious! They prepared the Tofurkey roast, which comes ready with the stuffing in it and everything... all you'd have to do is heat it up. And they served it with some cranberry sauce. I was pleasantly surprised. Of course it didn't taste like any Thanksgiving meat dinner at all, but it was a very good replacement. In addition to the little roast, you could just make some side dishes to make it a complete meal.

When the holiday comes rolling in, I plan to buy one and have that for our dinner :)

Oh, and if you decide to buy a Tofurkey roast, buy it at Trader Joe's instead of a health food store... it's like $4 cheaper ;)

It's not bad.

I like "Worthington Smoked Turkey" better (found through Adventist Book Centers) It is NOT vegan.. but it tastes wonderful!! .. Not as nice looking as a tofurkey (for the thanksgiving table) because it only comes in slices (like thick balogna) or in a round log that can be sliced. I like taking the slices, spooning some stuffing on it, rolling it up (like an enchilada) and then lining them in a casserole dish, and lathering on a veggie chicken-style gravy, then baking..
That's my FAVORITE vegetarian "turkey dish"

But if you find an adventist book center and try the worthington turkey..Warning.. watch how salty the stuffing and gravy are because it's got plenty of salt allready!!

But we've tried tofurkey.. it's okay..

you can always buy tofurkey slices before hand, try them to see if you like tofurkey..

I have had the quorn fake turkey before. I made it with vegetables and it came out pretty good. It really depends on what you are looking for in a thanksgiving dinner. For me the food is not that important its the dinner with family that is.

I don't personally feel like cooking a big dinner just for me(even though I could), so the fake turkey is simple, and easy. One Thanksgiving I just ate Chinese food and that was ok too.

If you are looking for something more, than there are plenty of recipes that you can try.

Twice. Although I like it fine, when I bought the complete meal, it became too much of a hassle with all of the directions. Hmmm, but on the other hand, I don't mind recipes for a single item that are extensive. I probably won't do it again, unless I buy only the "breast", and make my own side dishes.

This Thanksgiving/Christmas, I'll be making sesame tofu, as it is one of my favorite dishes-and I do it damned well, I must say.

I have tried it and didn't like.it.What you might want to do is get a spare one ahead of time and experiment with it. What you might also want to do is a more authentic Thanksgiving and research what would have been served at the first one. You might be surprised at how commercial ours has become. There would have been more vegetarian items than not.

I love tofurkey, (I always make more of the marinade than it calls for and add herbs of providence into it), especially the gravy, I recommend picking up some extra packages of the gravy especially if you plan on having mashed potatoes ;)

Yes, we had it. I spent like $30 on it and it was a waste of money. I ate more than my husband did, he thought it was gross. It's an excellent alternative if you can handle it. It really takes an acquired taste. Although it's not exactly for me, I think it is a great alternative and I'm glad it's available for those who want to try it.

i really didnt like it at all. it is probably the only veggie option that i didnt think was as good as or better than the real thing. some people like it though. the only way to know is to try it. i would recommend having a second dish on hand though in case you dont like it you can still have a great feast

I haven't and don't think I would eat it...especially after it being described as Jello vomit lol....

Then again, I am always willing to try something once....hey if this thing doesn't give you triptophane like turkey does, I'm all in!

What does it taste like anyways? Tofu with turkey flavor or what?

Sorry to say... last Christmas I saw one at dinner(vegetarian brought it) and I snickered at it because I wasn't a vegetarian yet... so now I guess karma is getting me this year because that's what I'll be having for dinner.
