COPD is a classification for someone who has a FEV1/FVC ratio of less then 70%. This is a test done as part of a pulmonary function test. COPD is not a disease however it is a classification for someone who has breathing disorders. The most common disease associated with COPD is emphysema. Second is chronic bronchitis. These diseases are almost always caused by smoking.

Did you have a pulmonary function test done? Do you have the results? I agree with the doctor, you are alittle young to have COPD but it's not unheard of.

If you were diagnosed with COPD, then you were tested with a machine that is a big box that you climbed into. You blew into a pipe that measured the amount of air you could forcefully exhale. Apparently your low performance on this test means you have the disease.
You're a little young to have COPD from smoking (unless you smoked a ton). You may have a natural predisposition to lung disease.
Spiriva is a drug that helps the lung passages stay open.

copd stands for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. It is a progressive disease and restricts the lungs ability to get oxygen into the blood. Good thing you quit smoking, that is probably what caused the problem. Your lungs will heal somewhat now that you have quit, but they will never fully recover and the disease process will progress over time.

Go to ask.com and type in COPD and you will find a good wb site that will give you good info on it. I have it also and there is no cure for it. I wouldn't really worry about it though. Just follow your DR's orders.
