I feel incredible guilty for this and only ever bought free range organic eggs,(that still doesn't alleviate much of the guilt). I got to the point where I was day dreaming about milk and quorn sausages. Sorry Guys and gals! You have every right to hate me!!
I lost 3lb in a week by being a vegan but it didn't carry on. I have lost almost a stone by going back to lacto-ovo and cutting down on bread and hummus.

No Andie. Being lacto ovo is still significant in the cause of animal rights. No way could I hate you.

I've been thinking about eggs myself. If the chicken was living free roaming and the egg was not fertile is it not just a well taken care of pet that gives back with it's eggs? The chicken gets protection, food, care ect, you get eggs. Seems like a reasonable bargin to me and I can even imagine a chicken accepting this if she could be given the option.

But then again, I'm not well versed in clucking and I really don't know if a chicken would rather live a protected but fenced in life instead of a shorter but free life. And who am I to assume what it would want?

As for dairy though; I had amazing health benefits from not eatting meat but the health benefits of not eatting dairy were even more.

Dairy was MUCH more difficult to cut out of my diet and I daydream of eatting cheese all the time while I look at meat and feel ill in my gut. Still it was dairy that had the biggest health benefits and there's no way I'll be eatting it again.

Then there's one more thing I'm sure of. Technology can do just about anything now and in fact they say it will only take 20 more years to stop the aging process, so if they wanted to, they could develop some way to make real, actual milk, without casein, in a lab if they wanted to with the use of bacteria and if more people become vegan and there's a market for it, some greedy capitalist (ha) will make it for us, so I'm just waiting for ethernal life and keeping my body as healthy as possible, knowing the lab made milk will be here in time.

So there's my ponderings on the subject. They're worth what you paid for them.

Peace.

Why ever would that be letting anyone down? Eat whatever you need-it should be of no concern to anyone else. I personally NEED my milk, which I get from my well pampered cow, and I give my daughter eggs from happy chickens. The hen does not need the egg, and it would just rot if left on the ground. Its unfertilized, so no chick is harmed. You have no reason to feel guilty at all. Eating is a personal matter, and you dont need to try to fit into some neat little package, or someone elses idea of what your body needs. Enjoy it! Once that hen lays an unfertilized egg, she is done with it-doesnt give it another thought and neither should you. Same goes for the cow-as long as its baby has enough milk, she needs to be milked or will become engorged. Poo on what anyone else thinks!

You haven't let anyone down. If you're feeling guilty, perhaps you let others' views bother you too much, or perhaps you feel like you've let yourself down.

No one hates you for going back to lacto-ovo. They don't even know you. If they can honestly say they hate you, then they have deep issues that are completely unrelated to you.

Also, good for you that you've lost weight through eating when so many choose to starve the weight off. I think you should be proud of yourself.

And for the record, I'm vegan transitioning to raw vegan.

It's not an exclusive members' group, or a political party. What you choose to eat is entirely up to you. You're a veggie, and that's a start. As far as I (or the animals) are concerned, every little helps, we do what we can! If you can't do without eggs, then get on with it - at least the chickens are safe!

Why on earth should you feel guilty?
Unless you have a medical reason to avoid certain foods, you are free to eat whatever makes YOU happy. The only person you are letting down is yourself, by denying yourself the freedom to choose what foods you eat.

I'm lacto-vegetarian, have been giving up eggs these last years cause I didn't feel like eating them. It's fine with me, really, what you did.

It is your own decision no one else's. If someone has a problem with it then too bad for them. You are a human being and are entitled to your own opinion and ways to live your life. If people give you a hard time then tell them to suck it!

Hah veganism is crap!
Im sorry, but what the hell can you eat if you dont at least eat ovo-lacto products!?
Im ovo-lacto and still find it hard to find things to eat cause ironically im a lactose intolerant ovo-lacto vegetarian, though i can eat cheese and icecream, just cant process pure milk.
You havent "let anyone down" cause its not as if the rest of the world are food police!

Your diet is probably far closer to vegan than the McDonald's diet most Americans gorge themselves on, and this makes me happy!
