Okay so I am all for the Ethcial treatment of animals and am glad that there are people like peta trying to stop animal crutley. I just have one problem, I eat meat. I eat very little of it, not like I order a double triple cheese burger, but I do sometimes eat chicken and maybe a hamburger but not everyday-I have to eat some type of meat because of what I need in order to have engery and things like that. so my question is, what do you think. I stand for animal rights, not testing on animals and treating them right, but I do eat meat however I try not to eat factor animals but farm raised animals. I mean I just want some other opions, I can support peta and still eat meat right? I mean I don't get it like its going out of style but I do eat it sometimes.

You don't have to support PETA to b4 animal rights. They tend to be hypocritical and wrong in a lot of things. Like when Steve Irwin died they said it was a good thing b/c he was always being cruel to the animals, which is wrong. He took great care to treat them humanly. So eat meat if you want PETA isn't going to come throw paint on you or your house b/c of it at least they haven't done it to me yet.

I used to be an anti-fur, anti-animal testing omni until one day, a few weeks after I decided I really hated eating meat and cut it out of my diet, I realized that there was something weird about supporting rights for some animals, but not all. It's around that time I became vegan.

Another problem is we could get rid of all the fur farms, all the vivisection labs, all the zoos, all the circuses, all the rodeos and bullfights, all the puppy and kitty mills, etc., and still not make a dent in animal exploitation. The vast majority of animals exploited are those we eat. And it's possibly why so many animal rights groups focus on meat.

You really don't need meat for energy or vitamins or anything but fat and cholesterol. It's good that you don't eat much, but you seem to have fallen for the propaganda of the animal industries that you need meat to be healthy. Carbohydrates are what give us energy. Complex carbs are best--whole grains, vegetables, beans, fruits. Animal products have no carbs, no fiber, just fat and protein.

Now, you can, of course, support PETA, although I am not a fan of them. I suspect they'll think your money is just as green as anyone else's and happily take it. You can get on board with their campaigns asking chain restaurants to provide less cruelly produced animal products (although that matters little to me because no matter how kindly you treat the animal in life, he still is slaughtered in the end). You can try to stop vivisection, animal circuses, and fur. For my money, I would support the Humane Society of the U.S., as they don't use shock tactics, and they don't have a rep as being paint throwers a la PETA.

I am an animal rights activist, support PETA and am vegan, i also run an animal rescue. However, i think its important that everyone do what they can to help - this does not mean everyone has to be "perfect". By eating less meat, you are helping. Some people don't eat meat but wear leather. Some people eat meat but dont use products tested on animals. Every little step that you can do counts and helps. BTW, you do not need meat to have energy. Vegan sources of protein are much better for your body and more easily absorbed. Most ppl have way too much protein in their diets which can have a negative effect. I hope you keep helping the animals in every way you can!

I don't see how anyone could be for animal rights and yet eat animal products. It is hypocritical. It's great that you are having thoughts about the subject. You need to think it through and decide which road you are going to take. I love PETA. We need some kind of organization to stand up. We need some kind of organization to expose the horrible truths that people just want to deny. Being vegan will give you way more energy than eating meat. Do some research and give it a try.

Do you personally go to the farm you get the flesh from? I ask this because I'm sure there are some farms with equally abusive workers as there are on factories. I'm just saying environment isn't everything. A person could offer the perfect home, food, and medical care to her little poodle and still beat the breath out of it when it does something she doesn't want it to do.

I'm not saying you're a hypocrite. You're obviously making an effort, to some degree.

Note that protein doesn't in its natural form give us energy. Our bodies draw energy from carbs first. When our carbs are depleted, it then draws from protein. But it has to turn the protein into sugar first. This is a lot of work for the body when all it needed to begin with was some carbs which you could just as easily give it. If you eat bread, pasta, corn, potatoes, drink juices, or anything of that nature, you're giving your body fuel. When you deny it that to give it protein instead, your body goes into a state of ketosis, thinking that it's starving. So now is the meat really for energy?

If you like meat, and want to eat it, that's fine, I'm not telling you not to. I just know it's not for energy.

As far as PETA, I'm not really a fan of theirs. Some of their websites have useful information, but I don't support them. Honestly, I don't really have an opinion of them. You can be an animal rights activist without being a PETA follower though.

You can eat meat and support animal rights. If it's what you personally believe then go for it. Do not let anyone else tell you otherwise just because they do not agree with you. Listen to their opinions out of respect, but they need to respect you as well.

If you believe that animals have rights, you would never even consider eating them.

You can eat whatever you want but you can't say that you need meat for energy because that is just a poor excuse.

People eat meat because they like the taste or they don't want to make their own food when meat is what is in front of them. Those are the only reasons if you aren't poor and starving.

Well, I've been vegan from conception, so it's news to me that you need meat for "energy and things like that". Do you really think this, or has someone told you that?

No, I'm sorry, if you stood by your convictions in the least bit, you wouldn't eat meat, dairy, eggs, or wear animal skin. That's like my saying "I think murder is wrong. Do you think it's okay if i kill a few people, then?"

You don't seem very firm in your beliefs. I think every little bit helps, however you will get called out for being hypocritical. If you seemed secure in what you were doing, I'd support you. However when you try to justify it (read: make excuses) by saying you "need" it for energy, then to me, your entire argument goes out the window. By saying things like "I need meat for energy" you further perpetuate the myth that a vegan (or vegetarian) diet isn't sufficient for good health, which is totally untrue. So you instantly lose the respect of people like me by trying to justify your actions instead of being firm and content in them.

Just because you're a meat eater doesn't mean you support animal cruelty at all. You make your choices and live with the decisions that you make. It sounds like you are careful of where the meat you consume comes from, which is more than most people, so good for you.
