yes, stop right now for the babies sake

The short answer is "maybe", but stopping now will prevent a great deal of the more serious damage. Generally speaking, short-term drinking and smoking during the early stages of a pregnancy can affect the development of the child, but there are several months for that child to develop normally before s/he is born. Smoking and drinking do not guarantee problems in utero, but they put the baby at greater risk for brain damage and other serious issues. Getting regular ultrasounds and refraining from drinking and smoking will help make sure this does not happen to your child. Best of luck!!

Unfortunately, yes. Since smoking is a poison, you are better off just drinking a bottle of arsenic (but don't do it). I don't mind smokers, but when people smoke while they're pregnant, that upsets me. People complain about secondhand smoke so much, but they have the ability to walk away. Your unborn child doesn't have that ability. You are pretty much FORCING them to smoke.

When the baby is born, you can go back to smoking and drinking, but for the next 9 months, consider quitting, for the child's sake.

First of all, at the first sign of pregnacy, stop the bad behaviors that could affect the baby. There are no guarentees there is no harm done. But the sooner you stop the drinking and smoking the better off your baby will be. There are so many ill effects that can happen.
My daughter smoked during both her pregnancies. The first baby does ok, the 2nd one has severe respiratry problems. smoking can make the lungs restrict and become narrower. My beautiful grandbaby has sooo many problems with her breathing, it breaks my heart.
Drinking during pregnacy--Fetal alcohol syndrom--- do you really want your child to become a statisic of that???
do what you can now to prevent any problems happening to your baby......

There are so many women out there that have smoked and drank and worse before they found out that they were pregnant and the baby has been just fine as long as this is not continued into the pregnancy. I smoked until I found out I was pregnant and also took pain medication for an injury but when I found out that I was pregnant I stopped cold turkey and I have a 3 year old daughter now that is just fine. Just take you vitamins and please get good prenatal care.

It definitely will affect the baby. It is very wise of you to ask out of concern for the baby. The next step would be to stop those practices until you know for sure, or until the baby is born, and definitely longer if you will be breastfeeding, and you should at least avoid smoking around a newborn. Remember, you are using a filter, he or she will not.

Depends on what you are drinking and how much. A glass of wine or a single beer each day won't hurt anything; however, smoking is definitely not healthy for your baby, even second hand smoke. Just my opinion.

Have you heard of "fetal-alcohol" syndrome? If you're smart enough to ask the question, you should be smart enough to know the answer. You know that smoking is bad for your health (I'm a smoker" and drinking in excess is also bad for your health, then you should be smart enough to know that either one is bad for the fetus.

Smart move would be to see your Gyn for a pregnancy test, and if you are, and you decide to have the baby, stop both habits until after the baby is born and you have stopped breast feeding.

It will definately effect the baby if you continue to smoke and drink. You really should stop both if you are pregnant.

The baby is more than likely find -- now it's time to slow down and quit though. See, here's what people FORGET....I'm 49 years (young btw - ha ha) -- our (my generation) of moms smoked and drank during pregnancy frequently and we turned out fine. My mom was an alcoholic when I was growing up so I have a feeling she drank through her pregnancy WITH me. I'm perfectly fine (and intelligent, I might add -- he he)
