My boyfriend is type 1. And it seems lately he's bleeding out his shots way too often. He takes lantus and Humolog, he tends to bleed his morning lantus.
It's not everyday or anything though. Any reason why he would be bleeding out more often all of a sudden, what can we do to prevent it.

It's normal for a small amount of blood to appear when you inject insulin. This bleeding, which is usually caused when the syringe punctures a tiny blood vessel, can be stopped by putting pressure on the injection site with your finger or a cotton ball.
Also, be sure that you:
Don't rub the spot.
Maintain light pressure with your finger to prevent bruising.
If a bruise does appear, don't use that injection site again until the bruise is gone
If you frequently bleed when you inject, you're probably injecting incorrectly, or you may have a medical problem. Consult your healthcare professional if you find that you're bleeding frequently. If insulin leaks from your skin after you remove the needle from the injection site, speak with your healthcare professional about using a longer needle or using a different injection site. You may also not be pinching up the skin correctly. Make sure that you release the pinch before you remove the needle from the skin. It is best to inject the same area for 1 to 2 weeks. Moving from spot to spot daily (From arm to abdomen) can cause your blood sugar to go up and down, since insulin moves into your blood at different rates in different areas of the body. Do not inject into a bruise.

This might be way to "common sense" but when he is done injecting, does he take the needle out right away? If you wait a little bit it might not bleed or release any insulin. I usually count to at least 5 seconds.

Has he been taking NSAID's like Advil or aspirin? These can cause easy bleeding/bruising.

If you inject into muscle instead of fat, the insulin could back out.
