He is only 4 and this started 11 days ago and he is still getting temperatures as high as 103! Is this right? His chest is clear, he has no rashes and ears are ok. Im getting more worried! Any advice would be good!

The doctor said last monday that he did not need any antibiotics as its a viral infection. I took him to a different doc this morning and she did not give anything either. He had normal temp at the surgery and looked ok (typical) but now he is home he is on the sofa again laying down. Given him some more Nurofen liquid to bring it down. The coughing for the croup was bad the first 5 days, but now it seems more like a cold with a tacky cough. I dont understand why I cant have some amoxycillin just in case it is a bacterial infection.

Oh...poor little guy...my son had croup when he was 11 months old so I know how scary it is. My son didn't have the temps with it...just the awful cough, but croup is associated with viruses so where he may not be able to get anything to get rid of the virus you should definitely see his Dr to keep him/her informed so that if it comes up again (this is the season for it) you both know what you are in for and how to help your little boy. It's important to to get that fever down and your Dr can help with that too. It's good that his lungs are clear, it just sounds like he's got a lingering virus. Here's a website that can tell you more about it and there is much more info on the web about it.

You'll both feel better after you see your Dr. :)

Just keep giving him the medicine the doctor gave him . Croup is hard to get rid of . Keep him out of the outdoors . Children can handle high temps , better than adults . Don't give him any milk products , just juices and water . Also , if you warm up some coca cola , this will help , dilute the phlegm . If condition continues after 2 weeks you better get him to the hospital . Good Luck and I'll say a prayer for your little one .

My daughter had croup as a baby but by the sound of your boy she was not as bad. If your still really worried take him back to the G.P or worst case A+E.
Good luck/hope he's ok.

Ok from a mother of four i have found that euculupus oil in the bathroom with lots of steam is the best medicine on the planet for this. You can get this pure oil from a phamisist and all you do is put capful on shower wall and create lots of steam long deep breaths later walaa all better i find this kills all cold and flu bugs and i swear it is the cure for the common cold {they just dont want us to know that }

You need to try and get his temp down....Keep the room aired and bath him in cool water. Try to make him drink plenty of water. Kids can get really high temps and although its scary we just have to keep our eye on them.. But you say he has had this for ll days that does seem a little long...ring up your G.P. and ask if this is normal.....could be he has an infection......Good luck.

my daughter had croup as a baby and had a very harsh cough...does your son? i would take him back to the doctor...mothers know best...a lot of times even better than the doctors. you can't always just go along with the doctor. you're the mother of this precious boy...you tell the doctor what you want...if you want him to run tests, etc. i hope he gets better!
