I loathe mushrooms and I'm a vegetarian. I happily eat a variety of foods, sans the 'shrooms.
I think the only thing we're really missing out on is the huge, portabella "burgers" but that's about all.
There a plenty of other ways to realize a "meaty" texture in your foods of choice. You can eat tofu, seitan, tempeh, beans and legumes.

I hate mushrooms too, and I'm a vegan. There are countless options without mushrooms--so many that I won't name them. If a recipe you really enjoy has mushrooms, simply don't include them since they aren't vital and only add more taste. If you're purchasing a pre-made meal that has mushrooms (such as soup) I guess there isn't much you can do, but usually the mushrooms are hard to taste unless the meal is predominately mushroom and there are plenty of other pre-made meal options that have no mushrooms. (some great non-mushroom soups and noodles are Thai Kitchen products.)
Overall, avoiding mushrooms is not a problem at all if you want to become vegetarian.
Good luck!

Well, I don't think mushrooms have that much nutritional value anyway, so health shouldn't be an issue.
Yeah, I hate mushrooms too, but they aren't in EVERYTHING. If you order Chinese food, just ask for no mushrooms-buy mushroom free spaghetti sauce-get spinach or veggie lasagna-as long as you don't eat animals, you can be a healthy vegetarian, sans mushrooms.

if you want to be vegetarian and not eat mushrooms then be vegetarian and don't eat mushrooms. for the most part if you're going for lacto-ovo (which is what most people mean when they say vegetarian) it will require very few changes in your diet at all. If vegan it will require more changes and more ingredient reading, but, certainly still not requirement of the eating of mushrooms ;)
