Hot dogs and smores are typcial bonfire foods.
You roast the weiners and the marshmallows for the smores on the fire.
wire coat hangers bend out into great skewers for this.
(If you don't know what a smore it, it's a roasted marshmallow placed between two graham cracker squares alongside a piece of milk chocolate (usually a piece broken from a large Hershey bar)
Build the rest of the menu around that. Fixins for the hot dog including chili and cheese.
Do melted cheese dip and be sure to serve tortilla chips and/or fritos too for making nachos or frito pies.
Other chips, dips and appetizer-type finger foods, would be good. Include veggie tray and/or maybe some slaw. Toasted nuts or even roasted peanuts still in the shell would make great snacks. You could even do roasted ears of corn.
You could also add some different sweet snacks such as cookies or brownies to the smores. It might be good to add individual pumpkin pie tarts or pumpkin bread muffins.
If it will be cool outside, you may want to add warm apple cider or hot chocolate and/or coffee to your drink choices.

Skewered hot dogs for the kids and some type of pre cooked sausage and/or kielbaska for the adults. Depending on where you live, there should be some type of specialty sausages in your larger supermarkets, also check some of specialty food stores (Hispanic, German, or Italian). I suggest skewering them before you get to the beach to avoid sandy food. Also have squeeze bottles of condiments so people don't double dip.
Another really good beach food that can be made ahead and is really easy is tortolini on a toothpick. And it will work for the vegetarians. Boil your tortolini noodles according to the package. As soon as they are drained toss them in about 2 tbsp. of Italian dressing. I actually use light Italian with the same results. Because you have kids you might want to use cocktail toothpicks, plus they look prettier. Place them in a container that is deep enough that you can cover the skewers without pucturing the top or breaking the skewers. The skewer half a grape tomato and then the tortillini. Place in the dish. Then pour enough Italian dressing over the top to just cover the tomato. Let this marinate at least 1 hour, but I generally make the morning before I am going to serve it. The most tedious part is next, you have to take all the skewers out, trying to get the least amount of dressing on the wood part as possible, pour out most of the dressing, you just want about 1/2 inch in the bottom of the dish and put the skewers back in. I like to add a little fresh basil between the tomato and tortillini, but the kids might not like it.
Another really easy one is shrimp cocktail. You can make or just buy it. For large groups I tend to buy the frozen rings. Right before you are about to serve it just squeeze some fresh lemon juice on top.
For dessert, of course smores, but I would suggest an alternative. Perhaps lemon bars. They are a bit of time to make from scratch, but Krusteez box mix is really good.
One really fun thing you can do right before you are about to leave is throw unpopped popcorn into the fire. The kids will really like seeing it pop out. And the sea birds will eat it after you leave.

I am having an inside Halloween Party. Now for a large or even small group of people. I had to think of quick and easy plus not stuffing or messy. So go for Shish kabobs (chicken, meat, veggies) I did this for a get together a month ago and it was a hit. You can then make different dips/salads/buffalo wings/and chips for a variety of snacks.
Have fun!! and Remember only you can prevent Forest Fires!!:0)

I would suggest hot dogs (These could be roasted over your fire with significant adult supervision for children.), a variety of cold salads, fruit kabobs (fresh, seasonal fruit in bite-sized chunks on skewers), and smores for dessert. Keep your beverages simple by providing single servings (bottles, cans, etc.) in a large cooler. (If you are offering alcoholic beverages you might reserve a separate cooler for those drinks.) Roasting the marshmallows over the bonfire provides entertainment as well as your end of evening treat.

Hot dogs which you can put near the fire, ice cream, potato chips, corn, salads, hard fruit like apples and pears which can be put on a grill with marshmallows, and smores for the fire, and also some crackers that you might like would be good with a spread for it.

When I hear fire I think of Smores. They're awesome and kids will love them. Hot dogs are good for a bonfire as well.

How fun for fall! Here are some ideas:
1. Chicken tenders on skewers (marinate slices of chicken breasts in Italian dressing overnight and then grill)Make ahead of time and everyone can cook their own.
2. Polish sausages simmered in beer and then grilled. Serve with mustard, saurkraut, catsup etc.
3. Beef tri-tip (season with cumin, chili powder, lime juice, salt and pepper) for slicing. Serve with warmed tortillas.
4. Cole slaw served in Chinese take-out containers. (you can buy commercial and add chopped apple for a treat)
5. Vegetable soup with parmesan cheese and crackers
6. Red potato salad with chopped egg, celery, crumbled bacon, sour cream, and diced dill pickle. Serve in Chinese take-out containers.
7. Brownies, cupcakes and cookies for dessert along with traditional s'mores.
