I have been newly diagnosed with HPV 16 (high risk). I got the pap done, and it was normal, but after reading all these other questions and answers and although the pap was normal, im thinking my cervix has cancer already but the doctors dont want to deal with me so they told me my pap was normal. Can you have a normal pap and still have active HPV. When will I die of cancer? I can't live with myself, and worst of all, i gave my boyfriend oral sex, and im scared to death now iv exposed myself to oral cancer!!! Should I just end my life? I want to stop suffering!

I am so sorry. Learning we have HPV is often emotional and they are so many questions that go through our heads that are not answered by our doctors.

You can have HPV with a normal Pap. Although a Pap may miss abnormal cell changes they will usually find them with your next Pap. Will the doctor be doing another Pap in 6 months? There is a good possibility that your HPV is just not causing cell changes right now and it may never your body is building the antibodies it need to keep the virus in a sleeping state. The only way HPV could progress to a cancer would be with cell changes over many years. If you have no cell changes then your virus can't progress.

If you doctor didn't want to deal with you or felt your situation was too aggressive he would have refereed you to an oncologist gynecologist a doctor that specializes in cancers of the reproductive areas. A doctor would not what a patient to die of a misdiagnosis of cervical cancer…his risk of malpractice and losing his license to practice it to great. If you are not comfortable with your doctor of you feel he is rushing you try to find another doctor. You need to have faith and trust that your doctor is doing all good for you.

In the US our screening program does a good job of finding early HPV changes and doing treatments to remove them so that your body learns to identify the virus and build natural antibodies to the virus. Right now the doctor is not seeing cell changes so there is nothing to treat. This is a good thing. The virus is in a sleeping stage where it is not causing any harm.

You play an important part in preventing your HPV form progressing to a cancer. First keeping yearly or as recommend by your doctor appointments for screening. Regarding oral cancer it is the same make an appointment with your dentist and ask for the test that will screen for precancer of the mouth. Most precancer situations of the mouth are found early and treated just as the precancer situations of the cervix.

Learn more about the virus. Knowledge will help with some of your fears.

Use condoms you have HPV, condoms do not prevent the transmission but condoms do provide more protection to your cervix and condoms does help the virus regress.

Find ways to reduce stress, right now I bet you are not sleeping well or sleeping to much but still feeling very tired. Learn the five stages of sleep and know that in stage four sleep is where our body does it cell healing.

If you and your present boyfriend were to break-up limit sex partner go for the long term committed relationship. In long term relationships couples usually build good immunity to the shared HPV types.

Eat your greens, studies do show that woman who consumed lots of broccoli cauliflower and cabbage reduced the risk of their virus progression. A supplement Indole 3 C or DIM has been use in research and has shown some good results but you can do just eat the veggies and take a good mulit-vitiam source.

you are SOOOOO overreacting. slap yourself now and get a grip, just kidding. do some more research on medical sites, not asking peoples opinions on yahoo. but really, hpv is not a big deal as you are making it, everyone gets it sooner or later. of course, you can have a normal pap with hpv that is usually how it goes. wow, all this hysteria over a little virus that everyone has just kills me. everything was fine with sex a few years ago, but now that we can actually test for the virus, everyone is freaking out. get a grip, this is not the end of the world or even close to it. save your hysteria for the important things in life. just get a pap and hpv test every year or 6 months or whatever the doc recommends. PS, if your bf is not a virgin, he probably already has hpv. PSS if you smoke, you should quit, cigarettes help the hpv grow

I have HPV and my last few pap smears were normal. Woman can have normal pap smears and still have HPV.

Also, it's not a guarantee that you will develop cervical cancer and will die from it. With proper screenings, like pap smears, abnormalities on the cervix can usually be caught early before they turn into something more serious like pre-cancerous cells or cervical cancer. Cervical cancer is not always fatal either. Depending on how severe it is, a woman can have part of her cervix removed, her uterus removed (hysterectomy) or go through chemotherapy without dying from it!

75 - 80% of the WORLD will have HPV at some point in their life. It is VERY common! Don't beat yourself up over this and let it ruin your life! See your doctor every year for a pap smear (or more frequently if you have had abnormal ones). It's not the end of the world, believe me!

Good luck!

I can't believe your doctor didn't tell you this but HOV is extremely common. More than 80% of people get HPV and it will likely go away on its own. It is nothing to be ashamed of and the warts are not harmful in anyway and can be removed. My bestfriend and my cousin had warts and they got frozen off years ago and they never got them again. Also their recent paps show they dont have HPV anymore. Not to be rude but thinking your life is over b/c of HPV is really kinda ridiculous. I mean practically everyone has gotten it. Think of all the people in the world who don't have a home, are starving, blind, paralyzed, dying of AIDS cancer...etc. You have it a lot better than you think. And don't let your current boyfriend off the hook so fast. Men cannot be tested for HPV and show no symptoms so it is very likely is was him who gave it to you and he doesn't even know it

You need to do some research on HPV and cervical cancer before you worry yourself to death. The vast majority of women with HPV (even the high-risk types) never go on to develop cervical cancer. To get cervical cancer, you have to be continually infected for a long time. Most women clear the HPV infection on their own.

What does this mean to you? It means that there is a good chance that when you get a pap in a few years, the HPV infection will be cleared.

No, you can have a normal pap and still have HPV. No, you don't get oral cancer from oral sex (BUT there are other STDs you can get that way). I know something like this is scary, but talk to a counselor and your doctor. Suicide is not an answer for anything. You're just scaring yourself.

Plus, although its high risk HPV, you just need to be active with your Gyno appointments! Having HPV does not mean you're going to get cancer, but can have a higher risk for it. Thats why you go to the Gyno regularly.

Girl,

I don't know where YOU live, but...

In the U.S., docs tell the truth. Not doing so allows folks to sue the lying doc for everything and then some. Oh yeah, and they don't get to practice medicine anymore.

Being diagnosed with exposure to any HPV virus does not mean you will die of cervical cancer, or ANY cancer. You may die of an auto accident in 30 minutes, or you may die of old age when you're 110.

Performing fellatio does not 'get' you oral cancer...doesn't work like that. Ridiculous.

I'm thinking you're a bored 12 year old boy with a sick imagination.

Oh honey! Don't worry! I went to a benifit for this last year, and I learned that something crazy like 75% of people now have HPV. Men are the carriers, and they dont show any signs of it. You can still get the HPV shot, and you will have less of a chance of being affected by cancer, or catching any other type of HPV that can be very cancerous. I am not a doctor, so you should definitly talk to them about this. They can inform you of things that you can do about it, and they can put your nerves to ease

Stop it right now. You don't have cancer. The doctor would not lie to you about that. HPV does not mean cancer, it means you could have a better chance of getting it later so you should get a pap test more often thats all. Stop having unprotected sex and you will be fine.

First, your GYN would never tell you that your test results were normal if they were not. Women's health is hot item and is taken very seriously, even if you are a pain in the a s s. Next, HPV is not a death sentence. Yes, many things about your sex life, dating and health will need to change and that can be effectuated with counseling and education. You seriously should start taking steps to protect yourself and others.
